Here is the history of my 99 F350 with regards to the transmission:

May 1999 – truck purchased new.

March 2001 @ 21871 miles trans and valve body overhauled

May 2003 @ 56828 miles remanufactured transmission installed

Feb 2006 @ 83408 miles new torque converter installed

April 2006 @ 85665 miles I have transmission problems again.

My current trans problem is likely the coast clutch (if I have done my homework correctly). Whenever you take your foot off the gas, the RPMs will drop to idle. As a result there is no engine braking. Furthermore, if you downshift to 2 or 1 (foot off gas) the RPMs will drop to idle.

All the work described above was completed under warranty and ESP (excpet the most recent tork converter replacement was under the 3/36 of the reman trans). I do not know what Ford is gonna say this time, but I assume they will have to rebuild or install a remanufactured trans again.

My problem is that whatever they do i will only get a 1yr/12k mile warranty on the "new" trans. I suppose some folks will say, just be happy that you are getting a new transmission. I kind of feel that way, but at the same time, I am frustrated that, counting the original trans, this will be the 4th transmission in less than 100k miles. I didn't buy a 40k truck to be replacing transmissions all the time.

Many of you will say, just get a BTS, John Woods, Suncoast, etc. I agree with you all, I just don't have a spare 4k laying around.

Do I have any ground to stand on in asking for anything from Ford? I would like one of the following. Provide me with a 3/36 warranty OR give the money for the trans and I will be out of their hair (then I can get a BTS, etc).

I would find out what your local state lemon laws have to say, and go from there. Google California Lemon Law. You'll need a lawyer that specializes in that sort of thing. If I was you, I would shoot for the cost of a new tranny before contacting a lawyer, then apply that new trans to an aftermarket of your choice. You might also consider calling some of these aftermarket trans builders and see if they can give you an idea of what the problem might be.

Has Ford ever replaced your PCM? My 99' had "sort of similar" problems and the dealer decided to swap PCM's and that cured my problems. Not trying to give you false hope, but maybe a different ave for them to consider...

KANMAN, what was your "similar problem?"

BTW, my truck has NO engine mods at all and the tires are a reasonably sized 285-75-16. I take real good care of this truck. Transmission temp never above 170. How is it that I can go through this many transmissions? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sick.gif
