Hi Folks,

I just flipped 30K and want to change my tranny fluid. I know it's best to flush it but I plan to just drain and refill. My question is, where is the remote filter located and how many quarts are invloved with a drain and refill. The manual says 16-17 quarts but I imagine it's only half that without flushing it.

Thanks!

the best and most accurate way is to measure what you
drain off & put the same amount back in.

i got between 7 & 8 quarts from the draining of the pan,
theres another 10-13quarts tied up in the converter and
the rest of the trannie.

do the full FLUSH, in the driveway, its easy.

and i would suggest changing the bypass filter a
bit more often than every 30k...the book calls for
at least every 20k <at a minimum>

the factory by pass filter is on the passenger side
at the bottom & behind the radiators etc...itll take a
22mm socket to knock it loose (alum. looking canister
w/ nut molded into the bottom of it)

becareful the canister is rubber mounted and you could
flex or break the trans lines feeding it...and air impact
gun will bust it loose w/out flexing the bracket and lines.

Do you have the Motorcraft part number for the bypass trans. filter that is contained in this canister?
Thanks

Thanks for the tip on the impact wrench. It made it a lot easier to get off.

I put a Napa filter on it. It's part #7702. It looks like a little roll of toilet paper

Better yet -- IIRC, the filter and Ford part number are listed in the Diesel Supplement.
