Ok I am at a loss. I am getting a po717 and po715 codes as my O/D light flashes. It shifts very erratic from 2-3 and will not go into overdrive. I have replaced both input and output shaft sensors and even the safety neutral switch as well as the harnes at the SNS itself. I have also flushed the transmission. My speedometer seems to be working fine. The Rpm gauge will drop when it shifts from 2-4 if under hard acceleration. Some of the research I have done says it might be electrical I have tried to trace some of the harnesses to see if there is anything visual but have had no luck and I can't find a wiring diagram. It's an 01 f350 4r100. Any help I am open to. Please and thank you.

This is pretty straightforward. You have a damaged wire between the PCM and the turbine speed sensor. Replacing the other two sensors was just a waste of money.

I didn't have any problems finding a wiring diagram for your truck. Click Here

Thank you Mark for the reply. I am a 72 years old and a USMC veteran. I am not too handy with the computer and a friend of mine told me what a great site this was. I have tried to Google it before I came on here and all I kept finding was 02 or newer. one of the sites that came up with Google said that 02 and newer were different. so not being a professional like yourself I figured I would ask here so I didn't go chasing a wire that does not exist. I must say the rude sarcastic response that you have sent back to me makes me wonder why i served for this country.

I'm sorry you feel that way. It wasn't intended to be rude and sarcastic.

I spend quite a bit of time here helping people solve problems. Sometimes I've saved other people a few thousand dollars. I don't get paid for any of this. To make up for no pay sometimes I like to have a little fun. I though what I posted was both useful and a bit humorous. I'm sorry you don't agree.

Anyway, thank you for your service. I do appreciate it.

Transmission Angel

I am an 84 year old USAF veteran. Found this site not long after I purchased my 2002 F-250 7.3 SD in late 2001 and have received helpful advice and information along the way ever since. I ESPECIALLY thank Mark for his answers to questions I have asked related to 4R100 transmissions. Mark's answers are always short & to-the-point. Once in a while there is a hint of "dry humor" but I've never thought of his remarks as snotty or mean. There are 4 or 5 regular contributors to the forum that I respect and read. Mark Kovalsky is at the head of that list for me!

I don't understand what one has to do with the other ?

How many forums can you ask a question late in the evening and have a professional diagnosis by morning?

If you stick around, I am confident you will find this an excellent forum to keep your PSD running right and saving you money in the process.

I do thank you for the fast response, I have been trying to figure out this problem for the last two weeks (which I am still scratching my head about) so I have been very frustrated. I was told by several friends and some other sites that This was a really good one. I understand completely about volunteering personal time for no pay and I do thank you for that. There are a lot of people that talk about the help you have provided them. I do not know you or have communicated with you before this interaction and did not know your sense of humor. I am one that loves a good joke or a bit of sarcasm but usually not on the first interaction. I do not know you and maybe if someone answered a question that way for you might say this guy is awesome or maybe you might feel a little offended like me. So if I was quick to feel disrespected I am sorry. So at this point I am still having problems printing the diagrams. So now I know your sense of humor if you wanna send another automated response on how to print them that would be great. Thank you

Click here: http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f47/7-3l-wiring-schematic-printable-very-handy-257591/ I promise this will take you directly to the diagram.
Click on the tan bar at the top to get a full size view.
*RIGHT* click anywhere in the image. That will bring up a menu that includes Save Image As...and left click on Save Image As....
It will ask you where to save it. Put it somewhere in your computer where you'll be able to find it. Then study it on your computer, or print it.

Still no luck between yesterday and today with help we physically ohmed each wire on the complete transmission harnes and from connectors to the pcm and all of them are good. Can there be anything else or is there a way to test the sensors. I am completely open to any other idea or suggestions you all may have. Please and thank you

Did you check each wire for continuity to ground and power? The wire can measure zero ohms from one end to another, but also be shorted to ground or power.

Yes we did we have the harnesses open and not only tested ohm's but used a power prob and made sure it held voltage as well. We also checked each wire individually to make sure they weren't grounding out or shorted to each other. All the connector ends look really good and I even looked at them very carefully to make sure non of the pins or connectors have come outta the pcm.

Nothing was changed recently. Had a valvecover connection go bad as I was driving home. Had about 5 more miles and then transmission started shifting all erratic. The next day I fixed the connection. And test drive it Moyer ran great but tranny kept shifting erratic and no overdrive.

Have not seen this mentioned so I will. PO0715 is insufficient input fromTSS Sensor. PCM has detected a loss of TSS signal during operation. Harsh shifts and may flash light. Go to Pinpoint Test F. P00717 is TSS signal intermittent PCM as detected intermittent TSS signal. Same symtoms. Go to Pinpoint Test F.

For this test check resistance of TSS and OSS

TSS-PTO 496-1244 ohms
TSS-non PTO 781-1979 ohms

OSS all applications 781-1979 ohms

Anyway that is from my 2002 manuals.

Yes we checked the resistance of both the sensor the new and old and they were within the parameters. I am at a loss. Thank you all for your help. I am still going to keep testing and looking for the problem so if anyone has an idea I am open to all suggestions. Thank you all again

The manual states that if the checks are normal then you must Diagnose by symptom. I am attaching a pdf with this chart. I may be able to get the sections you need but you may need the tools described. Oh I don't know much about these trannys but I have the paper. Good Luck

I physically ran new wires to the tss and oss. And still no change. Can it be physical in the tranny itself? If so any idea what it would be ? Any and all help appreciated very much. Thank you all once again.

One thing the manual suggest is to call up the TSS and OSS on a scanner and monitor them while while you change speed. This will check to see that they are working ie increasing and decreasing smoothly.

I am attaching a pdf from the manual that shows a description of electronic controls that go to the PCM to make the shifting decision. I feel its best to check these things before pulling the tranny.
