Hello guys, first question and this is not for a PSD
I have a 2000 Limited V10 with 85,000 miles and I am getting some noise out of the trans.
It only happens under a torque movement.
Meaning if I just give enough gas to slowly move forward it does not happen. If I floor it it does not happen either.
Just at the right throttle position it will produce a rattle sound.
Sounds like a loose cover or sheild. But everything is tight.
When towing the boat it is more pronounced.
Jacked the truck up off the ground and it would NOT do it at all.
Does not seem to do it in 3rd gear. Does in first and second.

Almost sounds like it could be the torque converter /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
But it does not do it all the time.
It is very hard to hear. Only able to hear it from the sound bouncing back like off a parked car, building or something.
Also i am getting some vibration that has not been able to pinpoint.

Let me know what your thoughts are.
thanks

I had that same exact noise in my 2000 Excursion. Since it was under warranty, they replaced the entire tranny. Problem solved.

It baffled the techs for about three days. Ford even sent a "factory guy" out to do the diagnostics. Never heard what the actual problem was. Sold it and got a 2001 (which is now for sale. New 2005 now here).

At least now I know that I was not the only guy to have that problem. They all thought that I was crazy when I first complained about it. Intermittent at best...

Good luck!

I think I have the same thing going on with 2004 with 8000 miles. It is intermittent, and happens when I get on it and it shifts gears, and let off on the fuel quickly and I hear the same sounding noise described here. The trans shifts good, engine runs great. Bummer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think I found my problem on another forum, the 6.0 engine and drive train. I think what I have is what this forum refers to as 'turbo farting'. The description of when this occurs and the noise it makes, sounds identical to this problem I am experiencing. Which sounds like not a problem but something I will need to live with.Go Figure.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

During my situation with the noise, one of the tech's thought it was the turbo. They took it off and inspected it, but found nothing wrong.

My tranny also acted normal, except for the intermittent noise. The noise disappeared when the tranny was replaced.
