My transmission has been acting weird lately. If shifts fine in forward except for a hard shift out of 1st to 2nd sometimes. When shifting to reverse sometimes it acts as though it doesn't want to move and vibrates back. Also when I go from Reverse to Park it jumps forward as though I am putting it in gear. Also does the same if i go from reverse to neutral. It did it bad today and only seems to do it when the trans is up to normal operating temp. The fluid smells burnt and looks dark but according to my gauge it has not got hot.

I talked to a local trans builder and he thinks that my clutches are going out or my pump is starting to fail. Any of yall have experienced this?

Also trying to decide whether or not to spend 5k on a BTS or just get the local guy to build it. He does good work and I know people that have his transmissions with no problems and one is even in a mud truck with 63" v-treads with a lot of HP.

Thanks Mark! I was hoping to hear from you. I am at work for the next 6 nights so I hope once I am on days off I can get it figured out.

about 2 years ago it was getting hot on me and wouldn't shift out of 1st unless I let off the throttle and was throwing a code for a 3rd-4th shift error. Changed the fluid and filter and no problems till now

No codes this time but the way the fluid smells to me is a sign that its on its last leg.

IMO..just get a BTS..hundreds of post from guys that had a local builder build them a "built" trans only to find out otherwize.

If staying close to stock HP I'd just get Fords HD trans..

I'm pretty happy with my local shop $2100 rebuild. They added the BD tc and shift kit. They warrantied it for 1yr with my mods. I mostly run 100 or 140.

how do you think the ford hd would handle daily driving with the DP 80 economy tune.

I dont tow heavy anymore. Only thing I really tow these days is my 19ft boat that isnt that heavy.

Where are you in Louisiana? Who built yours for you. I have talked to people that are very happy with jrs transmission in carencro and Steve at all-star transmission in Hammond

Spoke to Brian this morning. Very nice guy. He also
Suspects that my forward clutch is fused together. He told me that he thinks my truck would make it to his shop(500 miles) as long as I don't use reverse. Another option is to ship and instal myself. He says that it's a easy swap and that swapping this trans is much easier than my old 89 ford ranger was. Very nice guy and even talked to me about the flood waters that might affect us here in south Louisiana. More than likely I will be ordering one and swapping it out on my own.

Does any one have a write up on installing the trans with all the torque specs?

The part that is harder on this trans is that is weighs 270 pounds. Be ready with a way to lift that in place.

A guy named Bubba from southern Louisiana can probably bench press 270 one handed...

I'm located in Pollock (working in Oakdale). The transmission shop that rebuilt the transmission is Ball Transmission.
