Had the father-in-law riding with me this weekend and he pointed something out to me that I hadn't paid alot of attention to in the past. My transmission is very quick to shift from 2nd to 3rd. He said there should be an adjustment somewhere for it but he didn't know where. As long as I put the hammer down pretty good it rides 2nd on out but when driving sensibly that 2nd to 3rd is really quick almost like jumping from 1st to 3rd.

What to do now?

Check adjustment & and or replace FIPL/TPS (if never replaced or if you don't know how old/how many miles on it, cdnsarguy (I think?)had a post where a former ford engineer had a memo suggesting replacement every 50K miles to prolong the life of the E40D, all it is, is a variable potentionmeter/rheostat they wear out, the test/adjustment proceedure has in been in a been posted in the last week or 2(I think cdnsarguy posted it most recently) at closed throttle your're looking for 1.1vdc at WOT (wide open throttle) minimum of 3.83vdc, not to exceed 4.3vdc (measured from negative post of battery to center pin of FIPL electrical connector) if you can't get those setting it's out of spec & needs to be replaced. Consider changing trans fluid & filter if it's been a while more the 12k-20k miles if you're pushing your truck hard.Clean fluid makes a difference.

Looking at the injection from the hood the tps is mounted on the right side of the injection pump. It will have three wires coming out of it. Do you know where the injection pump is?
