you looking for the FACTORY sending unit ? or
a place to install an after market sending unit.

btw the factory gauge really is no better than
an idiot light w/ a needle on it...WORTHLESS
and heres the PROOF

install an aftermarket <accurate> temp gauge and be
done w/ it !

you can find GOOD ACCURATE install instructions (with
photos) HERE (the instructions show
the trans temp/sending unit install location)

The factory trans temp sending unit is located in the solenoid body in the transmission pan. It is in the front, located just to the right or left of center. Two wires go into a black plastic housing.

It is a 1/4 turn type sensor. Remove the plug, give the sending unit a quarter turn and pull it straight down. Reinstallation is the opposite.

If you're going to replace yours, I'd recommend looking at your new one before disconnecting anything. Then match it up with the one in your transmission.

Had the same problem.Had the Dealer fix it and i should have a tranny shop do because it was around $400.00 and could have had it done for less.(unless it under warrenty).
GregH you are correct about were it is.The new ones are around $85.00 from the dealer only.

Sorry to dredge up a old topic , but this is my exact question with two more.

First anyone know the part number for a 03 trans temp sender ?

second how about the part number for the pigtail ?

My trans is freaking out because the sender or pigtail have failed...... not under warranty anymore so I would like to fix myself.

thank you all

-Jared

EDIT: Actually the part I am looking for is call the TFT sensor , I can find info on it anywhere ..... is this really a ford part only ?.

I just order the TFT (Transmission Fluid Temperature) sensor from the dealership. Not sure of part number they looked it up for me.

The dealership wants to put the pigtail on which is a large job (price wise too!).

I'm having Aamco put it in when it arrives at the end of the week.
