Trying to figure out what rear axle I have in my 02 F250 SD with 7.3, including ratio & if limited slip.
If there is another spot that has this info feel free to send me.
Tags as I can read them...
tag one
3 V 420 B
73 10 5 2C04

Tag two
5 W 140 SYNTH
OIL ONLY

Maybe a # or letter before the 5 on tag two but can't see for sure

Thanks

Look in your door jamb. What is on the sticker under axle code?

It is a Sterling 10.5 rear end with 373 gears.

Odds are the second tag says 75w140 Synthetic Oil Only

You can also look at the sticker on the drivers side door jamb for the rear end code then look here for the ratio

Thanks bugman
Anything tell me if it's limited slip or open?
I believe you are right about the "7"5 not just 5. Thanks.

Edit:
The chart you sent me to answered it for me. :-( No Posi

Don't worry about the no posi. The factory one is next to worthless from all the reports about it.

tring to ID rear diff

Axle code 31 is a 3.73 non-limited slip differential. Like Bugman said, the factory posi is worthless. Probably all our axles are effectively open by now.
