So my rebuilt triple disk ford converter bit the dust.

I'm currently shopping around for a new converter and was seeking some input.

I'm at probably 375-380 hp and have no plans of going higher.

Would a grob cover triple disk hold up well or do you guys think a billet cover is necessary.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that Blue. Why did it go out? How many miles did you get out of it. Your custom tunes part ways from the traditional lockup?
Just curious.
No input or direction to point you to a fancy one.

I've noticed a slight shudder the last 5k miles. Then it would slip under moderate load.

I could feel and watch it slip through the pcm. Eventually got p0741 for excessive slip.

It lasted about 105k miles. It was fords first run of triple disks in 2007.

I was monitoring it using torque pro on my wife's android and our tablet too.

Ya I can had the parameters to see gear command, rpm and torque converter lockup on screen.

When it would lock up I could watch it jump from 0-250 Rpms when it's supposed to be locked.

Wel I just went with a triple disk converter with the stock cover. Upgraded internals.

Let's hope it lasts!

I went with PDQ. They are local and John woods uses them in all his builds so they have a good rep.

Break which part down?

I went to the shop and saw my trans torn apart Again. That torque converter sounded like marbles rolling around lol.

Hey blue , I went all the way with my converter , I know I costs $ but if you tow heavy it's worth the extra dollars to have a triple plate and a billet front cover fitted.
It's horses for courses, in this case you have to decide dollars v's what you do and how you drive you truck.

It's a triple disk with upgraded bearings and stator.

Basically everything but the billet cover

You will be fine with that set up blue , you don't tow real heavy for any long distance.

Distance + weight = heat

Hey blue,
How is that converter holding up?
Was there a part number or something? Their website offers little help.

It is still going strong. 20k hard miles so far

I have limited myself to about 360-375hp with a 4ms tune.

I should add that I’m converted to PWM on/off which is harder on the converter.

But I towed about 5k miles this summer and pushed the truck hard at times.

The hottest the trans got pulling huge hills was 180. Going slower in the mountains it ran around 190

Heaviest was a little over 9200 lbs...lightest was about 7500

My local shop used PDQ because they are based fairly close. They supply John wood as well last I knew.

If I was looking for a converter on a budget I would do a diamond T triple disk billet for 489$
KT performance sells them.
Quite a few shops on Facebook sell them and the results have been great. If I come in to some extra money I will probably stick one in and get a race tune lol

Thanks for the info. I don't have the power you do and might tow up to 10k some day, but I think I would like a better TC this time around.
