Truck is an 04 (Nov 03 build) CC SB bone stock. Truck was running great, just loosing a little coolant, so I bought the 13 pt Ford warranty, and took my truck to the dealer to be checked out. I was told at the time of purchase that the 13 pt warranty covered all the internal oil parts. Here's what I'm being told - EGR cooler was bad, oil cooler was bad, but was told the EGR valve was OK., and that all these parts were covered. Dealer called me today and told me the "oil adapter" was also bad and was not covered and would be about $365 to replace. Asked him what the oil adapter was, and he couldn't tell me. The dealer also wants to charge $150 for a coolant system flush and refill. Questions are - What is the oil adapter, and what does it do? anyone else have experience with this? Are there any TSB's that concern this?
I asked specifically if the head gaskets were an issue as well, and the service writer said they weren't. Ford inspector is going to look at the parts tomorrow.
ANY advice or help on this would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

I don't know what an oil adapter is but sounds to me like your service writer is trying to make some money. All the engine parts are covered under the 100K mile warranty that you already have and if you have an extended warranty it should cost you a maximum of the $100 deductible.

probly the peice that bolts on top of the oil cooler, cant see it going bad unless they broke it. ive only seen one leak before but someone else put a oil cooler in it a few months before. coolant flush is covered under the warranty tell them to read tsb 081103 its part of the repair when replacing either of thoose parts.

Just an update...Went to the dealer today to talk with the service dept about my truck. Asked to see the "oil adapter". that was broke and that they want to charge me for. It is the top plate that the oil filter and fuel filter housings bolt down to. Next to the center post that the oil filter slides down over is a small spring loaded little valve of some sort. It had come loose. I don't see how it could have been broken unless it happened when it was being disassembled. I asked the mechanic about the coolant system flush when changing out and EGR cooler and oil cooler, and he said"that's news to me, I never do it" I brought up the TSB that said it was part of the warranty repair, and was told they didn't know about it. that it was my dime to the tune of $150. Then I was told they would not do anymore work on the truck until I faxed copies of my warranty to Ford for verification. What they are replacing under warranty is the oil cooler and EGR cooler. Meanwhile, all the parts to my truck are sitting in a pile on the stall floor. The mechanic's stall was incredibly dirty. If ANYONE can help me get a copy of TSB 08-11-03 or might be 08-11-3 that I can take with me back to the dealer I would be most grateful.
Thanks!!

i would be calling ford about this one, that guy sounds like an @ss. i have seen a few of thoose valves break, but the only way i knew it was broken was because the truck would take a while to crank after sitting before starting, but other than that i never even pay attention to it.
pm me you remail i found a way i can send an attachment as long as you have adobe. it clearly says it includes time to flush the system in the labor operation code for replacing thoose parts.

another update -
First of all, MANY thanks to Fordboy, Bismic, and gofaster!!! The help and hardcopy info you provided made all the difference!!
Went to the dealer with a copy of TSB081103, and they agreed to do the cooling flush and change the oil (niether of which they were going to do unless I paid for them) after replacing the EGR cooler and oil cooler under warranty. Have had the truck back for a few days now, and don't have any problems that I have found. going to monitor the coolant level and install a coolant bypass filter. The "oil adapter" that the dealer wanted me to pay for was also covered by the warranty. I called Ford ESP on that one to verify after reading the responses to my post.
Again, thank you all for the responses to my post. You helped me keep a pretty good chunk of hard earned money in my pocket (that will probably go for some upgrades to my truck.)

That little adapter is a $50 part. the bypass valve is at the top of it. If you do not put the filter on correctly, you can break the bypass valve. I have replace 2 of them (second one I did my self) and now do my own oil changes.. as the dealer missed it twice.. IMO, this plastic oil slide with the bypass valve is a poor design..

I asked the dealer specifically if the little plastic valve could be replaced, they said no, I had to buy the whole top plate and valve for about $365. you're right, it is a pretty cheesy design.

blkglid, I seriously hope that you are finished with this dealer now that you have your truck back. There is something so very wrong when you had to come here to get supporting information to confront the dealer with (thank goodnes there were please here taht could help). Only to have them still not agree to cover the cost of what should have been warranty. You had to prove it to them with a printed copy. This is disgusting. Anyways, I'm glad you have your truck back fixed!
