I have only 1400 miles on the truck and I like it very much EXCEPT...on the freeway, in certain spots only it will bounce and buck like crazy. I know that it is becasue the suspension is tight and all the weight is in the front...but it is a little rediculous how much it does this. I was on the freakin phone once when it started and I could not speak without it messing up my smooth voice... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ...and on the way to taking my 68 year old mother to the airport she commented on how crappy the ride was for such a nice looking, EXPENSIVE truck.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/depressed.gif

Is it the shocks, the springs, or the whole thing? I am not wild about the ride of these so-called RANCHO knock-off shocks (FX4)...what can I do to solve this? BTW, I really am digging on this truck otherwise!

Mine did that as well. The bad news is it will only get worse. The shocks are PURE JUNK on these trucks. I finally installed Rancho 9000's on the truck and now the ride much better. These are the 9-way adjustable ones and are actually made by Rancho. The original shocks that are labeled Rancho are stamped Motorcraft. I am going to take them back to the dealer and ask them for a refund. That should get interesting. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don't you love the condition of our freeway after paying over $500/year for vehicle registration. Shocks won't cure it. Putting some weight in the back of the truck will help a lot.

First get rid of the Rancho's then get either Bilstein's or Danahoe Signature shocks. Check and adjust air pressure by useing the contact area of the tires...there is a how-to on this forum. Adjust your speed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif it will help on certain roads by going faster than whats posted.

Yea, it will put those sections behind you much quicker, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif thus solving the problem. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif I think I'll use that on the better half when she brings up my speeding problem. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Actually, caryt is correct. It does make a difference on some roads.

Smooth speed =

84+mph - CC LB

80+mph - CC SB

Just my observations.

Not to hi-jack your thread but.

What is satellite security? Lowjack?

Thanks,

The shocks on the truck are NOT Ranchos, they are Motorcrap with the Rancho decal on them. Any heavy duty shocks he replaces them with will be a huge improvement whichever brand HE chooses. I just replaced mine last week and could not believe the difference. The take-offs, FAKE Ranchos, wouldn't even be adequate for a stairstepping machine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I just installed the Rancho 9000's on my CC & my Brother and his wife really thought I traded in my 01 for a newer model. They complimented my newer truck because they hated to ride in the old which bucked so bad. They wanted to argue it wasn't the same truck, (((really))).

I just ordered them for the Excursion too. Oh, how I wish I would have listened to the others on this site in ALL of the threads saying to throw the stockers away for the adjustable 9000's. I guess I'm just thick headed.

Before the shocks, I used to run 44psi in the rear tires and 55psi in the front when unloaded & that helps some. The shocks are criticle.

The security I was speaking of is called GUIDEPOINT. It is like LOJACK, except unlike LOJACK, GUIDEPOPINT uses satellites instead of radio frequencies. It is really a great way to ensure that your truck won't get far without you.

So besides loading up the bed and changing the shocks, there really isn't much that can be done...? I have to drive to San Diego this weekend and I am dreading the ride home (empty)....oh well.

I don't remember where I saw it, maybe some magazine, but some company makes a sealed bag you tie down in the bed and fill with water to add weight to your truck. And by using potable water you could empty almost anywhere. Water weighs around 7 lbs per gallon so 100 gallons would work.

Don't you just hate it when a truck rides like a truck? My 2005 F350 is doing the same thing. I hauled a big round bale of hay ( 1000# ) about 50 miles last weekend down a farm to market road. Smoothest, most comfortable ride since buying the truck. My buddy just installed Ranchhand Ft. and Rear Bumpers on his which smoothed out the ride. I would suggest getting some weight in the back. 5 or 6 large bags of play sand or sack concrete should help.
