Hi all,

My X needs to go in to have the water pump replaced. This is my first trip and I'm not sure about the Evo. and returning to stock. I will obviously return to stock, but do I need to do anything else like cycle the key 40 times to clear a hidden code? Disconnect the batts. for 30 minutes?? I'd like basically to drive to the dealer w/ the Evo and then pull over around the corner to return to stock programming but don't want any hidden codes that I'll need to clear before going in.

Thanks,

Alin

I think Bill programmed a code clearing routine in the EVO so it shouldn't be a problem. BTW, the magic number is 20 key turns to clear that hidden code (which is really hidden). Shouldn't need to do anything but remove your program back to stock.
You can always check for codes with your EVO after going back to stock.

I would disconnect the batterys to clear the codes, but remember, the code most recognized with a chip, is the Memory Keep Alive code, which comes up if you put a chip or programmer on it, and also comes on if you disconnect the batterys.

So you will have to run it a while with out the EVO, after you disconnect the batterys to get the KAM code to go away.

Hopefully someone will be able to give you the number of cycles to clear the code.

I don't think it's just key cycles, I think it needs to be run for a while to be considered a cycle.

I don't know why either but perhaps someone gets nosy and such. I've also heard of the dealer re-flashing a new updated code w/o informing the owner.....you'd be screwed if that happened and your tuner was installed.

This is my 1st trip to the dealer....don't know what to expect so cut me some slack.

Alin,

I would remove the EVO and leave it at HOME! Not under the seat or ?? in the truck. If the Keep Alive code comes up and they ask.....tell them its none of there business why! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif It could just mean you had the batteries disconnected.

Alin,

I always switch back to stock program and if they ask about the battery disconnect code my story is always going to be that I was playing with the stereo.....Ya I know it sounds goofy but I'm sure the dealer would just shake their head and walk away. No questions asked.
