Truck Just Stalled Twice

My neighbor came over with his 2001 Powerstroke and while it was idling it just died. He restarted it no problem and we drove about 10 miles and again it just died and restarted no problem. There were no drivability issues it just died like someone turned the truck off with the ignition key.

I used an Auto Enginuity 5.1 scan tool and came up with no diagnostic codes but when performing the KOER Diesel Switch Test I came up with this codes:

P1536
P0220
P1780
P0571
P0703
P0565
P0567
P0568
P0569

Any ideas?

Thanks,

joe

Did you do a buzz or contribution test? those codes most likely wouldn't be the cause

1536 Parking brake
220Tps
1780TCS ?
565-569 cruise control malfuntion
571Brake swith malfuntion
703Brake switch malfuntion

Its probably a CPS failure...

He might just became the newest member of the CPS club...

I did the contribution test and it came up as passed. I would suspect the CPS if the truck hadnt have restarted so easily. It may still be the CPS but has anyone had a similar failure and wouldnt it show a code if it indeed was the cause?

[/ QUOTE ]Many have reported the same issues and taken their truck to Ford and because they had no codes were turned away empty handed. I think this is so classic, I would just swap it out with the new $15 CPS from www.powerstrokeshop.com and see what happens. Given the frequency that this is happening, shouldn't take very long to see if this is correct and it is so cheap. Your time is worth more.

Mine '02 stalled while idling at a traffic light, and started right up. Just died if I turned the key off. Replaced with my spare as soon as I got home and not had a problem for over 9K miles and 1 1/2 years later. I used to own a '99 PSD and it stalled while driving... OMG these trucks are scary to pull over with no power brakes or steering... I had to constantly refire it about every two minutes of driving, what a PITA. READ - no spare then, learned my lesson good. Moral to the story, for the current price of $15 bucks, replace and see. If not, keep the old one as your spare.

CPS, the only thing that gives wierder symptoms is battery or alternator failure.

Mine was doing the same thing. It would just turn off randomly. Sometimes at a stop light, sometimes while driving down the road. Sometimes weeks or months without and then it would do it again. Changed out my CPS last week and have not had a problem yet. I had 2 of them shipped to my door. for $40.08 from Powerstrokeshop.com The dealships around here wanted $190.00 and had all kinds of excuses why they didnt have the cheaper part F7TZ12K073-B.

[/ QUOTE ] sounds like exactly what happened to me. My truck just died while driving, i pulled over, restarted with ease drove a little while longer then it died for good. CPS was the culprit.

I bet that would make you pull over at the first store off the mountain for a new pair of pants.
