I was pulling the trailer today(14k lbs) and when I put it in reverse, the engine wanted to stall?? I tapped the pedal a little and the rpms went up and it backed up fine. This happened a couple times. The truck had no issues while in drive. Is the tranny going bad or should I look somewhere else? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Thanks,

Probably isn't your problem, but sometimes it does that when the tranny filter "falls down" (a.k.a. comes off). Cheers!

Thanks,
It's getting close to a fluid change anyway.

IIRC, if the torque converter doesn't unlock for some reason, it will kill the engine when going into reverse gear. Someone chime in if I am wrong. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

no my fluid is all new and full smells good looks good.

like i said its werd it never stalls if i go D-N-R,it does still do it if i go from D to P a few times in a day but i never really put it in park unless i am going to shut it off, when i get out of the truck i just click it in -N- and kick the E brake for refuel or what ever means of me geting out the truck for a min.

Mine does it all the time, especially when cold. Had the truck in for some non-engine work and asked the mechanic about it and he thought it was the TC failing to unlock. I did not have him work on it as it is mostly an annoyance (for about 4 years now) and the tranny seems to be strong otherwise. Is there a way to fix this thing without spending lots of money?
