I just fixed my 83 f250 and I was taking it for a test drive and it just died and now won't restart. I have fuel in the tank and im getting fuel at least to the filter because I pushed the valve while someone was cranking it over fuel came out after a little air. It still wouldnt start after that so I cracked an injection line and no fuel was coming out. I pulled the front cover off the injection pump gear housing and found that 2 of the 3 bolts holding the gear to the pump were missing. Could those two bolts cause no fuel?

The 2 bolts missing would still allow the IP to turn...... but it sounds like you have fuel, but how much in each tank........ at or below 1/4. Sounds like your getting air in the system.

New bolts for the IP gear...... are universal joint bolts with 5/16 12 point heads. Use locktite Blue on the cleaned threads.......... bolts and IP.

Those missing bolts are the same as the rear universal bolts sold at Napa. They require 25 ft lbs of torque and the blue loctite is a good idea. What did you fix and why are two bolts missing anyway... The pump drive is keyed to the gear so its plenty strong but 3 bolts really are needed. No, missing those bolts has nothing to do with why it wont start. Sounds like you are getting air into the fuel system somewhere. Next time you crack open a hard line at the injecters hold the throttle wide open. That way it will pump out the air much faster. these pumps don't push much fuel at idle settings.
