I have purchased a Tru Cool Max to install in my 2000 7.3 psd. Do I:
1)Leave original cooler and add Tru cool in front of AC Evap.
2)Remove original and install Tru Cool in it's place between Rad and AC evap.
3)Remove original and install Tru Cool in front of AC Evap for better air flow.
Do I install the oil bypass that tru cool supplied? We do get temperatures down to 20 F. here in the winter,
My mechanic is worried about flow restriction if we run the two cooler in series. My truck does not have the radiator tranny cooler.
Looking for someone who has done upgrade and is happy or has had problems. Please post tranny temps with advice. My truck is 2000 F-350 Dually 7.3PSD. Towing 10,000 lb fiver to Mexico from British Columbia, then Florida ,back up east coast and home across Canada.

Replacing the factory oil to air cooler with one from a 6.0 would provide the most efficient cooling but since you have purchased the Tru-Cool Max, put it in series with your factory cooler.

I have the factory cooler and a Tru-Cool Max on my 02 and it has been working great. I rarely see temps that exceed 80ºF over ambient even when pulling the boat over the divide in summer.

Do not use the bypass that came with the Tru-Cool as your 4R100 already has one on the transmission and the additional bypass could put an additional restriction on the flow.

Do a flow test first, with the stock cooler take the return line off, let the truck idle after you point it into a 2 liter soda bottle. HAVE SOMEONE REV the truck over 2,000 rpm. See if there is anything going through the STOCK BYPASS,,,between the two lines on the transmission, if you have anything coming out of the bypass (Trans side,,of the input) then it is restricted with the stock cooler, WHY WOULD YOU WANT to put another cooler in series with one that may already restrict your flow? (This is straight from BRIAN Thompsons mouth.) If I was to put an after market cooler on, I would remove the original and only use the OTW with the new cooler. (Does the 2k PSD have an OTW?) Not sure when they started, either way I had my early 99 without one, and just did the V10 when I got my BTS. Never had any cooling issues with it.

As mentioned above, the 6oh is the way to go, for sure.

It all depends on when in 2000 his truck was made. Early models like mine only have the OTA cooler, later in the year they added the cooler in the rad. Many have installed the TCM inline with stock cooler, but I would worry about restriction too. The TCM is the same size as the V10 cooler and many have simply replaced the stock unit with the V10 unit before the 6.0's came out and they provide plenty of cooling. The TCM will provide plenty of cooling for the average owner, but if you tow heavy a lot in hot temps than I would sell or return the TCM and look for a 6.0 cooler. My temps dropped a solid 40 degrees.

I have the OTW, 6.0 cooler, and tru cool max mounted in front of everything, just behind the grill. Tranny temps are perfect. 80-100 above ambient. I tow all the time. It's what my truck does for 70% of it's life. the 6.0 cooler is awesome, and coupled with the tru-cool, works fantastic. I also have zero bypasses in my truck. I threw out the one tru-cool sent, and ATS does not put a bypass on their trannies. It gets cold where I'm at, and I plow snow, and the truck sees quite a bit of cold weather use. I haven't had a problem yet reguarding tranny temps. If you remove the stock location cooler, i would replace it with something. Just running the tru-cool max will not be enough. I did just that untill I could get my hands on a 6.0 cooler. I had to remove the 7.3 cooler for other reasons.

I would bet your 6oh would work the same by itself,, and the true cool was a waist of money!
Try it, and see.....
