I am going to be getting a chip and had been leaning towards a six position TS, but lately it seems I have been reading a lot on here about the DP Tuner.

What are the positives and negatives of each, and is there really that much difference between the two?

For sure get a DP tuner. I bought a TS chip last week and have been having trouble and also another truck I know of. There customer service SUCKS. I was like you I didnt want a dp tuner and thought it was just a big hype over nothing. Now I know where I am ordering my next chip from, DP no questions asked.

Your post from a few days ago...

Yea I am not to worried about the chip. What I am worried about is that my check engine lite stays on all the time no matter what. I disconnected both batt. and let it sit and it still stayed on after I start it. I can scan it and it says no codes present but lite stays on. I never even backed the truck out of the shop with the chip in it. I took it out. The truck runs fine the way it is now.

It may run great with the chip in it but I didnt want to find out after what I have already seen. Has anyone with a DP or TS chip ever had this happen. I have installed several TS chips in trucks but mine is the only one that has screwed up(my luck). Thanks everyone.

You also stated:

The chip box has the right computer code beside the tune numbers. I dont have the chip in now but the ses lite stays on. The truck runs great though. I put the edge back on and everything is like it was but the ses lite stays on the whole time. Any ideas. Bad computer?
Thanks for any help.

When we spoke with you yesterday you said it threw an IDM code. This would not be chip related. As we told you yesterday switch your IDM out with a friend and clear the codes. That will solve the SES light problem. You stated it is staying on with the Edge box, with chip, without chip, etc. We've tried to tell you what you need to do. Your chip was purchased through a TS dealer. We've tried to answer your questions and tech it out for you with the information you have given us.

Sounds to me like you are your own biggest enemy. A big hype over nothing? LOL Geeze /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif I dont see anywhere where OP says they dont want a DP Tuner?

My TS Performance chip has never had a problem since I have owned it. Slapped it in (but first I did the right supporting mods before I ever installed the chip) and it has work flawlessly ever since.

What TS didn't tell you (I would assume because of board rules) they own pretty much all the hardware for these chips. All the diff tuners folks buy their hardware from TS. What differers is the programing that loaded onto the chips.

The light will come on if theres a spec of dirt on the connections of the chip. I dont know if that is what happened to yours could be a possibility.

You can get your TS chip Reburned to DP tunes on it. I am going to be doing that when I get a chance to get home. There is nothing wrong with the TS tunes the only reason I am doing it is because DP tunes are nicer to a stock trans and it will last longer with the DP tunes. If I had a BTS in my truck I would just keep the TS tunes on my truck. Nothing wrong with them.

There now is an agreement in place by the chip burners that use TS blanks that they won't burn their programs over other programs unless they were the original ones to program that chip.

DP hands down, it's not even close and I'm referring to the tunes not the hardware which I'm sure is fine but the program they sold me had waaay to much advance timing and windowed the block so DP.

Interesting signature. Looks like you like to tow /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif We do alot of towing with our 01 drag truck. As a matter of fact we just had 600# taken off for better towing power /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hammer is right on if you want dp tunes you must buy a DP chip, if you want TS tunes you must buy a TS chip.

Both are great tuners just pick whats right for your truck.

How do I know which is right for my truck?

It's a 2002 w/ an automatic transmission. I do some towing, but nothing major, just a 25' travel trailer once in a while.

I don't have any other mods yet, but plan on doing an AFE Stage 2, guages, and exhaust. I plan on straightpiping it first though, then do the whole exhuast down the road a little bit.

I am considering not even having the extreme setting put on it just for safety sake.

I appreciate the debate free info everyone has offered. I didn't start this to try and stir the soup, just wanted advice and info on both to help me make my decision.

I'm not sure I get your point, because my signature looked like this when I purchased the TS chip

01,F350,4x4,4" exhaust, paulshp intake, banks IC, oh and TS 4pos chip /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Looks like you already have exhaust, I would do some kind of air filter. You can fab up a Tymar-DIY setup with a NAPA PN 6637 filter and a piece of 4" pipe for the intake, and they work very well.

But most importantly YOU NEED GAUGES Pyro is most important, then trans temp with an auto, and boost is cool and good for diagnosis and baselines.

yep, getting intake tommorrow from napa. on here, just today i saw some pics of the tymar setup. so i plan on doing that.

and i installed the 3 guages you mentioned too.

i put in the pyro. i drilled into the manifold. but then i see on dieselmanor.com the other pyro's that are pre turbo and post turbo? do i need those 2 as well? kind of confused on all the pyro guages?

Good to hear you got gauges. You only need the PRE-TURBO pyro gauge. A post turbo gauge is absolutely worthless except for comparison purposes. BTW you know to keep it at 1250º or less right.

I think you'll like the Tymar setup too. It makes some cool noises to start out with, but you really get used to it.

well my guage is just generic. neither post nor pre. so i guess by mounting the sensor in the exhaust manifold, i have a post turbo guage? so there are just 2 types. not 3, right?

and no, i didnt know about the 1250 yet. i was going to look that up. thanks for telling me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
