I have a 2015 F250 with a 6.7, I need to perform a manual regen on the DPF, and would like feedback on my options.
It has about 70000 miles and is regen'ing every 250-300 miles, is loud with injector cackle, and bad fuel mileage.

From what I understand the engine/injector noise is the computer trying to get the DPF clean, as at times, the noise will go away for about 20 miles or so, then is right back. I drive about 30 miles to work every day, and warm the truck up for 15 minutes before I leave in hopes that the computer will decide to regen.

I am tired of not be able to regen, as i feel a few manual regens would clear the problems up, based on what I read.

Question is , should I get a tuner that has the capability to do the regen? If not, what is the cheapest option for a tool that will allow a manual user regen?

I am using the ForScan with the wifi elm 327, and it shows that the dpf is constantly at 110-140% clogged on one of the parameters, then 50-90% full on another parameter. I do not have the dealer activated dpf monitor in the dash so I have no data from that. When the truck gets up around 125% clogged on the upper parameter, it is very loud, like can hear it coming from 4 blocks away easily, louder than a knocking 7.3 that needs an oil change.

Help is appreciated.

thanks

PCM driven regens are done when in Drive and will not start when in Park. IF you were in the middle of a regen then shifted to Park the regen will shut down in 2 minutes or so.

I always tried to drive 20-30 extra minutes when a regen started to be sure it had time to finish. I liked the Edge CTS/CTS 2 that would show when the motor was approaching the time to start a regen. I do believe the same CTS2 will allow user to start a manual regen. Anyone you know have a CTS2?

No I do not believe I know anyone.
I purchased the truck as a certified pre own from a Ford dealer. They have been trying to fix the truck for 4 months. It was not until this week that I realized that the filter may be clogged by using the forscan app and elm device. The trucks screen does not come up and tell me when regen is starting or ending. I have only seen it flash 3 times cleaning exhaust filter for about 1-2 seconds then no status. If I knew when it was about to start I could definitely drive to clear it up.
I have been looking and believe the edge or the bully dog are the only two that will perform the static regen, with the bullydog able to do both static and on the fly regen initiation.

The Bully Dog model I checked earlier will not do "on-the-fly regen" per the manual on their web site. Think it was the Bully GT device.

That's about right. It's a VERY quick message and doesn't give you any sort of "completed" message. One of the things I got a bit angry over with Ford.

As far as the device: I'd hold the dealer to fix it myself that way it's done right. Or you can buy what you like and see how it works out.

It seems that there will need to be more than one manual regen.

I have the exhaust filter % screen enabled on mine and have done a couple of manual regens with it. Just an FYI, with the factory option enabled the only time you can command a manual regen is when the filter % is above a certain threshold (I think ~ 85% or 90%), the vehicle is warmed up and the shifter is in park. When all these conditions are met and you have the exhaust % screen displayed the screen will give you an option to start a regen. I have only used it when it gets close to full and I know I won't be driving it far enough to perform a normal regen.

I used a J2534 programming device on mine, similar to the equipment a dealer would use to program modules, seems like there were a couple of people on here that got the dealer to enable it for them for free. I think there is some info on here about using Forscan to do it too.

Had this done on my 14 XLT Premium last week. I now have the 3rd screen showing the % on the filter. My local mechanic was able to do it when he enabled my remote start. Getting both of these done did NOT require a trip to the dealer. I need to watch and see if I can do a manual regen as some have mentioned in the linked thread.

I now have a ghost screen in the 4th place after the regen screen. Does anyone else have this?

Tom,

doubt you are going to be able to do a manual regen from your display screen in the IPC. Seems that only the 2011-2012's can do it. There was one guy with a 2015 that said he could but no one else with 2013-2016 says they can do it from their IPC.

No one has identified what the 4th screen is used for. Everyone has it whether it is the 3rd or after the Exhaust Filter screen is added, the 4th screen.

Larry,

Thanks for the info.

I did check it when I was at 90% and 95% when I was in Park and no manual regen option.
