I just purchased a 99 f250 with a utility body for work.
The truck has 260K on it, but the motor, turbo, and tranny was replaced and now has 60K.
It has a basic 8ft utility on it and I will use it for service work for my business. I was thinking of getting the new edge A2 tuner for it because it has the GPS and back up camera. It makes sense to me because of my needs for work with the GPS and camera, and the added tuning ability for power and fuel milage.
does anybody see any reason why I wouldnt want to put in on there?

this is my first diesel and so far I am really liking it.

The only reason I can think of to not put the Edge on that truck would be the fact that there are FAR better tuning options.

I have a work truck with a DP-Tuner F5 on it, works great. You could also talk to Tony Wildman, Elite Diesel, etc. If you really want an Edge I'd talk to Jody or Diane at DP about the Evo II with their programs on it.

I read quite a few praises for DP and took a look around their website. Im worried about doing any damage to the truck cause it has had a hard life as a work truck....
I was interested in the A2 because of the internal guages, because there aren't any aftermarket guages on the truck.

i think this could be the answer your lookin for, give them a call

"New at DP-Tuner... Get your New Evolution II custom tuned by DP-Tuner"

read this
link

Of course there are better performance options than a "Stock box" tuner like Edge, SCMT, or any of the others. But the man just wants a "Little" extra, and it comes with the GPS, and rear camera? (Didn't know that!!!) And he could use those options with his business too,, so it sounds like a perfect match to me! (He does not sound like he is going for 400 RWHP like some on here,) There is nothing wrong with EDGE and I do not use it either! Many on here are happy with them I think.

(If Jody can tune that model EDGE,, then probably all the better though!)

Oh, and OP WELCOME TO TDS,,,

So, you don't think we work our trucks???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gifWork 1 Work 2 Work 3 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif
Just kiddin ya,,
There is one guy that has an F450 with a BIG service bed on it, weighs nearly 11,000 alone without his skid steer and trailer....
He was near 400 hp I think with his 7.3L
He now has a 6.0 PSD set up the same way...
So yes, a tuner on a "Work truck" is just fine! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Jody can also place his tunes on the SCT Live Wire, he doesn't sell the unit but he can load his tunes on it. Something else to consider.
One thing to think about, when you buy one of these all n one units, gauges, tunes, nav, back up camera etc.... what happens when something goes south with one of the components? You are now without everything while it is repaired or replaced. Buying seperate pieces avoid this, and many times can be cheaper in the long run. Just something to think about.

[/ QUOTE ]I would say go with the edge tuner, it gives good power, but I don't think you want black smoke and a touchy go pedal like DP gives you. Granted there are tow programs and things from DP, but the edge will give you consistent reliable power with low smoke and safe egt's and such.

That was kinda where I was leaning.... I dont need or want the huge horsepower gains as it is only a mild service truck with light towing. the biggest I would tow is a small skid steer, a scissor lift, and a utility trailor. I will probably still give DP a call and see what they think.

I have had several Edge products on my 7.3 and 6.0. They are nice, but limited in the fact that they are after the ECM. I have no real complaints. The DP programing is capable of changed more values, so you get a better tune overall. The driveability and refinement of the D is unmatched by the stock boxes, Edge/Banks, etc. GPS an Backup camera can be had easily enough without being bundled with tuning.

If the truck has an automatic in it, then I would definitely to custom tuning. The best stock programing sucks, Jody's trans programming was worth the money if I didn't get any more power.

I also wouldn't worry about hurting the truck. Tell Jody what you have, what you want it to do and you get tuning that does that.

Mainly the shifting.

Dp and a seperate set of gauges will probably be cheaper than the all n one unit too!!

go dp.

dp has caffeinated and decaff versions. the caffeinated makes the throttle a little twitchy with a 6 speed and a huge load. You get used to it, but it can be a little annoying on the ice.

I regularly (most days all summer) gross 20k. I drive all summer in 80 econo.

for winter, i switch to 40. for employees i switch to 40 tow.

all of them are better mileage, more drivable, more fun then stock, and all of them are perfectlly safe if you have an egt gauge.

Jody also has a half-caf. It's a little of both versions. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
