I have a stock 96 Powerstoke automatic in a CC truck. I am interested in aftermaket exhaust & a tuner/chip. I have no need for racing, one-off programs, etc. I am just interested in an upgraded program & better sound/breathing for my truck.

Exhaust- there are many 4" systems on the market, are they all about the same, aslong as they are mandrel bent? I understand that I must 1st change my downpipe. But after that, one system is about the same as the next, right? I know stainless & aluminized systems are offered.

Tuners/Chips- anyone advise which tuner works the best for general driving & occasional towing. I am looking at the SuperTuner.
I've also heard that the Edge makes the tranny shift way too hard. I have a 28'5th wheel that I tow, otherwise I just want a little more pep. Any advise is appreciated.

I would take the chip over the tuner anytime! The exhaust systems seem to be mostly the same materials, though some may be easier to install. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Do you recommend a particular chip?

Thanks.

Dad of 2 , you need to contact Tony Wildman for a chip. He will be able to give you exactly what you need in programing of a chip that will suit your needs for your truck and your driving style. The tuners have one program for everyone....an everyones needs are not the same. Tony will make recommendations to you, trust him, he knows more about our trucks than most anyone, he owns and drives one himself...... Tony wildman....(405) 818-6365

Man alot of guys will tell you to go with the chip.....but if you want practicality and alot of managable power go with the Edge Evolution. Time and time again my edge evo. has proven to me it's "hotter" programming than many people think. I ran better 0-60's and better 1/4 times than a truck on the fuel 7 program. My tuck had the stock intake when this happend and the other truck had a tymar. My truck also cut out in the middle of my 1/4 run and I still ran a good time so you tell me spend the extra for somthing that flips or get a good tuner that clears trouble codes and reads 0-60 and 1/4 times and has a live read out. Plus I've tested that the flip chip thoery is not all that it's cracked up to be. It takes a truck an average of 1 to 3 weeks to fully adjust to new programming so if your just always flippin your chip you never see the full potential that's why people are always getting better dyno numbers if they leave the chip setting alone for a while. But that's just my two cents worth. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Thanks to all for replying.

Tony Wildman turned me on to some good info too, thanks.

Does anyone know the address to Steve Baz's web page? I'm told that he has a lot of good information.

Thanks.

Fella's ya'll have to understand that Fuel 7 was written for David Lott to run in Snow White, and was then used in a bunch of different applications it wasn't written for. Take 2 trucks and put the same program on them and they will 9 times out of 10 act differently.

Fuel 7 on a stock truck isn't a good combination, the timing and pulsewidth is designed for ALOT of fuel, not for 98cc's give or take.

Don't get me wrong, Edge products are first class all the way, lots of R and D goes into them. But the fact of the matter is it is still a one size fits all application and as such you don't have the leeway you can get with a chip, with custom programming on it.

The only thing these trucks will "learn" is shift patterns on the tranny, they learn the driving habits based on the program that is in the truck. When you introduce a chip into the mix, the tranny has to "relearn" the different power levels because it adjusts it to the drivers habits. However it doesn't take 3 weeks for that to happen, and it won't affect the power output.

No, on a 5spd too!

Takes the driver awhile to learn to shift, with the new power! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif
