I have a stock 2004 6.0 litre. A buddy of mine was looking at the engine and took one look at my turbo and said it is going bad. He said you can tell because of all the oil residue. He said that I should rebuild it soon because if it fails I will have to replace the whole thing. If I act now I can rebuild it.

A few questions: 1. Is there ay validity to what this guy said?
2. If he is right about needing it rebuilt ASAP, how much time do I have? Should I jump on this within a few weeks or is there several months or more of time?

3. I have watched a few videos online and feel confident I can handle it. But are there any tricks, concerns, or special tools I will need?

4. This same guy said something about upgrading the internal parts to increase power. What should I be looking for? Can I upgrade a stock turbo with different guts?

Thanks.

I don't know if it is on the way out or not but they are easy to rebuild and yes you can upgrade your internal parts. It is a lot cheaper to upgrade than buy a replacement turbo.
