I have a 2000 PSD with the forged rods. Ive been wanting to add some power for a while and finally getting around to it. I want to swap the turbo for a better one but would prefer a straight bolt on or one that requiers very little to change. Im assuming i will also need new injectors to run a bigger turbo. Also id like to retain decent MPGs. My question is what turbo and injectors would you go with? I have cold air intake, muffler delete, adj fuel press regulator, flow through fuel setup and DP tuner.

You might try asking Dale Isley at Tymar Performance ( 1-509-922-8785). If I remember correctly he did a bunch of testing on different combinations of turbos and injections a while back. He might be able to point you in the right direction.
Dale is great to deal with.

Best direct bolt on turbo is probably the garrett 38r. Basically the same as the stock turbo, just ball bearing so it can support more boost. U don't have to run bigger injectors with it, but you won't see any benefit until you get injectors.

I haven't replaced my injectors but I hear good things about the baby swamps. Thinking that is the route I will go when the time comes.

IIRC, the A/R ratio of the GTP38R is 1.00, and the stock bushing Garret is 0.85 or 0.81. Typically, the lower the A/R ratio, the quicker the turbo spools up, but maybe the ball bearing unit makes up for it with less friction. I don't know, wish someone had a side by side comparison.

Yeah, I know they are not exactly alike except for bearing type, but they are very similar. My truck performs identically, all other things being equal at the moment. And, it bolts right up same as stock. I think I'm gonna go with stage 1 injectors from dp-tuner to compliment my turbo, or stage 2's with an hpop soon to follow. Haven't made up my mind yet.

So is the GTP38r worth the money or no? Im looking for a solid 425hp and id be happy with that for a long while.
I want to replace my HPOP because i think its going out but if i can get my 425-450hp with baby swamps and not have to get a $800 unit i will, but you guys will have to tell me what i will need to get to my goal cause i am a noob.

The gtp 38r is well worth the money if you want to go with injectors. If you plan to keep stock injectors no, it's a huge disappointment.

But, the stock turbo is not capable of living very long at the higher boost numbers injectors will produce, so if you're going injectors, then it is a great choice, IMO.

I've been doing some researching on injectors recently myself, and that combo should give you your desired horsepower, but it would be best to go with the upgraded hpop as well.

I think I'm gonna be hardheaded and go with stage 2 injectors and my stock hpop for now, and when the money rolls along afterward I'll upgrade my hpop also.
