Hello Powerstroke Think-Tankers,
00' F250 Extended Cab, (Mothers, not mine), leaking oil exclusively from front right intercooler tube down onto frame i-beam holding the front bumber on. My theory is that the turbo, being it rides on a semi-fluid bearing, is leaking internally and into the intercooler ducting. The leak is pretty large, creates a 12-14" puddle in a 12 hour period on concrete. So, is it rebuild time for the turbo...I would appreaciate any inputs. Thank you all!

Yup. Mine had a similar leak but out the exhaust side. Rebuild or replace time.

If time is not a big factor then rebuild locally or ITP turbo rebuilding is one of the best deals out there. I would have used them (may still!) but time was the bigger issue.

If time is a factor (like in my case) then replacement was/is the better option. Research any one or all of the recent turbo related threads and find hours of reading material.

For a more detailed answer we need to know if you want to keep it stock or upgrade and if you are upgrading, to what level. Any other "go-fast" goodies on the truck?

Thanks for the replies.

I am looking into replacement if time is of concern but I think I can afford the downtime, afterall it's not my vehicle...it's mom's...my 02 hasn't had a problem yet! (knock on wood)

No need for power upgrades here, she doesn't really grasp the full appreciation of the power.

I'm considering rebuilding it myself...anything scary out there I should know about? I found a complete rebuild kit and the process doesn't really seem to difficult on paper; of course on paper communism is supposed to work. Anyway, I have a very open and objective ear to thoughts on the DIY aspect of this, thank you as always!

some oil reidue is normal with a stock ccv setup, and if the clamps are not tight they can seep. Usually if they are tight I replace the boot.
