Ok so we all know that the supderduty turbo in stock form surges. First of all what is Surge? Second question is why when we use the superduty wheel (all the blades equal lenght) don't we get surge from our turbo's? Or do we? Also to change over to the SD turbo do the manifolds need to be changed over on a 97? I have the complete setup sitting in the shop. I am just planning for the next time my turbo goes out. Thanks a bunch

You will need a OBS stile wheel to stop the surge...sometimes called a wicked wheel. I not sure but I don't think you have to change the manafolds..I didn't when I installed a SD H2e kit /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Thanks Cary. I know about the wicked wheel. One of my biggest question really is why there is surge with the stock wheel on the superduty but if you run that same wheel on our turbo's no surge. before I toasted my turbo it had the all fins equal wheel and it never surged. Is my pwoer level just not high enough for surge or is there something there that makes it not surge.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif Never heard of a OBS turbo with a SD wheel on it? I think in your case its a combination of power and the fact that our houseings are 1.15 not .84 like the SD's Good question for Bean

The turbo was rebuilt before i got the truck. Many rebuilders are using the SD wheel becuase they are much cheaper than the wicked wheel/Banks type wheel. ($15 for SD, $75 for WW)

I had mine rebuilt and didn't realize it had an SD wheel until it started surging on me. So...they WILL surge on our turbos. Sent it back and they rebuilt it with an obs wheel for free. No more surge. Industrial Injection Salt Lake City.
