I have a 99 with a 7.3 stock motor, have the "big napa air filter" and stock exhaust, i just straight piped it and still don't have the wistle like others do??? My buddy has a 05 with the 6.0 and did the same things and he has GREAT turbo wistle. My exhaust has more rumble but don't seem to wistle, thats what im trying to achieve. What do i need to do to get that great wistle sound?? Thought the straight pipe would do the trick but it didn't

At idle, the 7.3 turbo just isn't spinning fast enough to hear a whistle. If that's what you are after, you would need to step it up to a variable vane turbo or a 2 turbo system, a small turbo to spool up at low exhaust velocities and a larger one to take over when the small one hits it's max. Neither way is going to be cheap. To get the loudest sound from what you have, removing the foil wrap on the CAC tube, getting an open type air filter, and making some sort of thinner intake tube is about all you can do.

When I did my tymar, I used the stock intake tubing and had no increase in whistle. I then replaced the stock tubing with 4" pipe and the whistle became very noticeable. When I added the Wicked Wheel, the whistle went crazy. Almost too crazy in fact. I tow regularly and it starts to get pretty annoying on longer drives.

First did the ccv mod and cleaned up the boots. good whistle then quiet. did the diy tymar and lots of whistle and good song at highway speeds. diy tymar is a donaldson filter, 4" aluminum pipe and a plugged ccv connector tube.

where did you get the 4" intake tube to replace the stocker? Is the ccv the pcv port coming from the valve cover? I want it to be heard, but don't want soo much of it that it get annoying.. I too use the truck for pulling a big boat and don't want to annoy the family and kids on long trips.. Thanks for all the input!

also keep in mind a stock tuned 7.3 with intake and exhaust you will hear more of a turbo whistle, when it is tuned it is still there but is alot harder to hear to due the extra engine noise from the advanced timing and such.... plus with more fuel you eventuall get more of a whooosh at higher rpm... nothing can match a 6.0 with a straight pipe.. its my most favorite sound in the world!

and like tonka said gt38r
