I would like to black out my front and rear bumpers on my tuxedo black truck. Being a pearl/metallic paint do you think it would look weird if I powder coated my front and rear bumpers black instead of painting them to match the tuxedo black? I am worried that the paint over the chrome bumpers would easily chip. Thoughts?

If you see the harley editions for previous superduties they are color matched and metallic...looks great. Painting chrome - not good but I'm sure there's a fix.

I would HIGHLY recommend if you paint them to get the clear bra protection film. I had my painted front bumper reshot three times in five years. But it looked great :)

Sandblast them first. Seal - then quality paint and clear.

i have wondered the same thing since i plan to do replacements and they are just a black powder coat as stated. i have also though about doing it like the 6.4 FX4 trucks and doing a dark gray.

I have a body guy who has painted my cousins factory chrome bumpers and guarantees his work. my cousin has not had any issues with his bumpers BUT he does not drive his truck as much as 90% of us. I am going to have him paint stock chrome grill and see how it holds up. He said the key is proper sanding and to use an epoxy primer.

show us some pictures what ever you do.

Take your bumpers to a chrome shop. They can do a chrome strip, which is a very simple process. That will leave the nickel plating for rust resistance. Sand and paint!
