I really like the under cubby mount, but can you see your gauges as well as with the A-Pillar mount. Also is the installation tougher with the cubby mount. Please let me know of any advantages or disadvantages that you see with the under cubby mount.

I've have the gauges in the A pillar and an under cubby mount.
I like the A pillar for more important gauges like Pyro, Boost and Oil Pressure. Easier to view without taking my eyes off the road.

You do take have to take your eyes off the road a second when viewing the under cubby gauges. I have the voltmeter, tranny temp and coolant temp. mounted in the cubby.

The difficulty of installation between the A pillar and cubby is about the same.

The look is very clean, once painted it looks factory. I personally check every pod and the paint before it goes out, to insure it was done right.

The A-Pillar is the easiest to glance at while driving. This way you keep your eyes on the road.

Unless you are like a lizard, you have to take your eyes off the road for pillar mount too. I choose under cubby because as I age I can't see as good close up as I once could. All it takes is a quick glance to see what is going on, same with pillar I would think. I also didn't want the luminosity (is that a word ) right in my face at night even though I can dim my lunars.

Hey, that's why we are called individuals, right??

Under cubby for me also, the pillar seems to creat a little more of a blind spot for me. It really does look like Ford intended to put it there ( I mean like factory). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

strokecrazy,

If you want the easy visibility of the A pillar, but the out of my way of the cubby mount, look at our over the rear view windshield mounts. They are available in 2,3 and 4 gauge designs, and are the best for keeping your eyes on the road as well. We have all the gauges and wiring harnesses as well to make the install easy as can be done. Call us if you have any questions etc.

Stupid question - will the over-the-rearview gauge pod fit an Excursion with the factory overhead display/console?

Instead of the A-pillar, go for the triple mount that sits in the windshield lower left corner on top of the dash. I'm running that and the under cubby mount both. I think the install is great. I've had several people comment on the dash mount, they say it's unique. I just think it looks better.

how does the dash mount look when looking through the windshield ?
is there a cover so one doesn't see the back of the gauges.

Oh yah, it is completely covered. It has a molded base and fits the dash great. Wiring comes up the side of the dash so there is no drilling. I wish I could remember where I got it. I'll do some looking around and get back to you.

overcurrent,

Yep it sure does and it even has a channel cut into it if you have the auto dim mirror on the 2005's etc. Some trucks have the mirror a little too close to the top if the windshield, believe it or not the guy at Ford must be just slapping them in place. So sometimes (1 out of 75 or so) you need to move the mirror down with a glue kit from the parts store, they are 6.00 or so.

I have the over the mirror mount and really like it. A bonus from it is when your driving in the direction of the sun it blocks the gap between the visors.

I bought mine from Ken's Performance Solutions

www.kensperformancesolutions.com

219.00 delivered, 2 gauge mount with ISSPRO gauges and an underdash cubby with paint

Superb instructions, and he emailed me to make sure I was happy, basically a super purchase. He also has 3 gauge mounts of all flavors. I highly recommend!

And of course I'm 1 out of 75. What's the best way to get the mirror off? I was thinking hair dryer and putty knife.

JRF,

Take a sharp single edge razor blade, and go around the entire 360 degress of the mount and push it up under as fear as your fingers can stand. Generally it will come off rear easy once you "break" the seal around the edges. Or just wait till you need it to be there and it'll fall off. Call us if you have any questions etc.
