I just purchased a 97 powerstroke that has a chip/programmer but I have no idea what it is. I would like to remove it and purchase a quality chip but first need to figure out what I have. How do I go about finding what is currently installed on my truck and removing it? The previous owner has had the truck for about 4 years and he claims it "came with the chip" but has no idea what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it an adjustable chip or a single page chip? Both chips plug into the PCM but the adjustable chip has a few wires connected to a knob, usually mounted somewhere close to the steering wheel, for adjusting the setting on the chip. The PCM is located behind the park brake lever in the cab.

Cheers from Claremore, OK! :)
