I'm looking at upgrading my alternator in my Excursion and was thinking of going with this Most Powerful USA Made Ford 1999-2007 F250, F350, F450, and F550 trucks and all 2000-2005 Ford Excursion SUV's with either the 7.3L or 6.0L V8 Powerstroke Diesel engines High Output Alternators. Has anyone used this style I'm not to crazy about large case 6g couple of searches sounded like it was marginally better in longevity than stock.I'm getting ready for a long trip in a few months and just changed a brand new stock unit out that that about 20k. The lifetime warranty is nice I guess but not really liking how long they last so just looking for responses on these units. I would upgrade the charge wire and probably add a extra ground strap.

20K on an alternator is pretty low. are you sure it wasn't a Chinese knock off? i'm still on my OEM one no problem.

I think most people will upgrade for the mean green high output but not sure

That is the problem with rebuilt parts from a box store such as Oreilly, NAPA, Autozone or any of the others out there. You never know just what they rebuilt on it to get it up to factory specs and what is going to fail next. Even with a good warranty it doesn't do you any good if it dies on you when you are a couple hundred miles from that parts store.

For alternators or starters I will go to a local automotive electrical rebuild shop. They are getting harder to find but they are still out there. Usually when they rebuild a part it is rebuilt from the ground up.

I bought a new NAPA alternator. Guess where it was made.....

I upgraded to a Ford 6G Large Case 140A unit, which went south on me, and I had it rebuilt locally, using the NAPA alternator as a short duration spare when the good one was in the shop, then swapped back to the 140A unit as soon as it was fixed. I didn't want to depend on the offshore built unit.

Ya but he atleast he/she fully inspects it and replaces everything if asked. If they are a professional.

The Chinese Guys just fix what was wrong and throw it back together. Kinda like ford HD4r100's haha

Not sure. I didn't quiz the guy who fixed it for me. I should have asked.

His shop was about 2 blocks from work and I was too busy to mess with it myself. The truck was about ready to die with lights starting to dim and other stuff going wonky as I passed by there. I had my wife bring me the spare at work, swapped that out and took the 140A unit to him that afternoon.

I had a local guy build me a 200A large frame alternator a couple years ago...it failed twice. The second time at 7am heading east with a trailer on. I got to a town, grabbed a NAPA, gave my large frame back as a core I was so po'd with it.

So I spoke to this guy, he confirmed they were off shore parts.

He said he found a source for USA built parts and had sold another guy that really miles his truck up a 220A large frame unit with these parts and the guy was having good luck with it. He said it would have a 270A rectifier in it and he could do it for $250. I might just take him up on it.

I wouldn't mind the 240 amp, my wiring will get upgraded when I do it for sure.
