Be careful following their instructions. They copy from repair manuals and they aren't always right.

I noticed in the IP R&R instructions it states to remove the IP with the injection lines attached. While you can do this on a Pickup truck, there is not enough room above the engine to remove the IP with the lines attached. Attempting to do so will likely result in bent / ruined injection lines.

Now you tell me!!! I followed the book and did remove and install the IP with lines attached on my 88 E350. I did have to remove the input line (center of spider) but left the rest of the injector lines. It wasn't easy and required removing of 2 of the IP mount studs and I didn't bend any lines. It was really tight and came out like one of those metal puzzles that seem impossible.

So what else is wrong in the factory manuals?

There must be a little more room in the older vans. I took mine out with lines intact, however it involved prying and cussing. I wish I had done it the right way.

I'm sure there are a lot of things that are in the manuals that may not be quite right in the van bodies. The Econoline is kind of the red-headed stepchild of the F-Series.

Of course Ford is currently re-engineering the SuperDuty so that the cab comes off easier, since it will need to be removed to work on the new 6.4L diesel. I can't imagine how they are going to handle Econoline repairs with the new engine. If they can even get it to fit. (It took them months to get the 6.0L to work, and the 6.4L is going to have more "stuff" attached.)
