Gas engines need three things to go. Fuel, air and spark. Since starting fluid is doing nothing then I would suspect the spark has gone bye bye. Is the "check engine" light on?

I have the same problem, but generally when the engine is hot, and the temp outside is hot and humid.....changed the IAC Valve and the Crank Sensor, but it still does it. No check engine light!
If I leave it sit for a 1/2 hour or so with the hood up to help cool off the engine then it start and run no problem.
Had the dealer run a diagnostic on it and they found nothing?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

My 2000 Excursion V-10 was doing this. It was intermittent. Ended up having to take to the dealer. They figured out that the chip-reader for the chipped key was failing to read the key. At first it was doing it when the truck was warmer, then was happening when the truck was cold. The part plus labor at the dealer was about $450 a year ago... I hope this might help...

In some cases, it may be the fuel pump is acting intermitently . In that case you need to hook-up a fuel-pressure gauge to see if you are getting any fuel pressure during cranking .There is a test port on the fuel rail (my 2003 V-10 has it on the passenger side somewhat near injector #4 area ). Also the fuel-filter , does it need to be changed .

One quick and dirty way of checking the spark is to remove the easiest COP and put an older/spare spark plug on it then ground the plug (not on fuel rail of course ) . Your helper cranks the engine , you check for spark , if there is spark then move on to fuel .

Good luck guys,
