Just did mine a few weeks ago. Pretty easy job if you have the right tools and work space. Will take 4-5 hours. I have a 14' and it has the o-ring gasket not flat gasket like older models. I didn't notice my bolts being that loose but it was definately the source of the oil leak. You will need a fan clutch tool and spanner wrench to make the fan removal easy. Rented mine from autozone. Make sure spanner wrench had the pins in it. Also be careful. The bolts on vacuum pump are very soft. Broke mine off when tightening and had to replace with stainless. Used blue locktite. I will try to find the link I used that has step by step instructions. Let me know if you have any other questions

I have always found it odd that it is not considered a "part of the engine" and is not covered by the diesel engine warranty. The pump is technically considered part of the braking system even if the truck has a hydroboost system. Since the pump also is necessary on all vehicles for emissions you might think it could be covered by the emissions defect warranty... vacuum is used for the EGR cooler bypass valve actuator and the turbocharger wastegate actuator if equipped. It's just one of those things.

Agreed.
I have requested from Ford Customer Service a list of what is covered and what is not to avoid any future surprises.
I highly doubt if they follow through.
Dealership's must really look forward to this known issue with theses trucks. $$$
I requested they torque vacuum bolts to spec.
They charged $700 to replace a $16.00 seal. Never approved a seal replacement.
Service manager really seem enjoy my poor experience.

Duknasty, did you ever find the step by step instructions that you used to correct the vacuum pump seal? I believe I have the same issue will confirm today.

Hey, i know this is an old post, but how did you get the bolt out that you broke off? I tightened mine today and it snapped very easily but i was able to get the other 3 tight. 2013 f350

More often than not, when these bolts break they can be backed out using a sharp transmission pick. The bolt holes are very short and the bolts insert just about all the way and bottom out so they don't usually stretch or damage the threads. A small left handed drill bit applied as close to center of the bolt can also run the bolt out. If you are replacing any of the vacuum pump bolts with anything other than the correct Ford replacement parts be very sure to pay attention to the length of the bolts. You literally have about 1-2 mm of extra depth using the stock bolts. As I mentioned in another post, if you are replacing the primary water pump be careful not to mix up the vacuum pump and water pump bolts. They are not the same length and if you place water pump bolts in the vacuum pump they will bottom out before they clamp on the pump... and this is typically when you have a broken bolt situation. BTDT.
