Wow, I have been calling around all my local parts stores getting prices on the vacuum pump for my truck. Prices very ALOT!

The highest I have found so far is $288. And the lowest has been online from several places, including shipping and no core charge required for $115.

I am ready to go ahead and order one of these online, but.....

Is this a good price, or can I do better from somewhere you may know of?

Feel free to PM me if you don't want to give out your secret shop to everyone.

Thanks,

Our Auto Zone does not have access to them. They have a part number, but can't order it for some reason.

Mark, why did you pull a good vacuum pump and replace with another if this was a good pump in the first place? Or is it about like mine and is getting lazy? Mine works, but is slow to recoop a good vacuum, so it seems.

I paid $107.99 on 4 Feb 06 at the AutoZone in Perrysburg, OH. There's a (refundable) $25 core charge, too. Part #641024 (mf'r unknown) is what they had here; also shows on the AZ website as a Wells VP9 at $113. If your local AZ manager is too dumb or hidebound to figure out how to order one for you, buy it online. Note that the VP8 ($149) is only .7 lbs, and thus must be the electric one for the SuperDuty.

I have noticed a lot of the rebuilt ones, including mine for 108 bucks, did not last very long. Mine is now squeeking.
They will cover under warrenty, but you would think they would last longer than a year and more than 2000 miles!

I know what you mean, I bought a reman from napa that lasted 8 months and 6000 miles. The bad part is the the bearing blew while I was towing the 5th wheel down the freeway at 65 mph. It's a little spooky driving with no brakes or steering. Napa was good about relacing the pump and even gave me a new serp belt. I'm still nervous about the pump but so far so good.

By new do you mean Ford new? Dang that is one expensive part.

Are the Delphi brands any good? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

A discount parts store in this town will give you a low price and a lifetime warranty on such parts, but I've learned that, generally, you get what you pay for. Ask yourself if you want to blow that pump while towing a heavy trailer on a long downgrade 200 miles from home. What good is that warranty then, and how much would you be willing to pay for a good pump while stuck on the side of the road?

I've had at least three total brake failures in my driving life, and lemme tell ya, it's an experience you don't want to have. I remember once, when I had a VW bug, asking the parts place for a rebuild kit for wheel cylinders. He said they didn't have kits, just new cylinders. I said I was just trying to save a few bucks. He looked at me like I was an escapee from the state hospital and said, "Those are your brakes, man." I said he was right and bought the new cylinders. I've always remembered that little moment.

(Sorry, I don't mean to sound preachy; but voice of experience speaking here.)

Perhaps there is an IH number for this part. Might be a little cheaper than Ford.

Don't know how offering a free part violates any rules?????

I changed it because it had 200+ K on it, and figured change it before it leaves me on the side of the road. Plug I got a new one for $50.

My directions on a ford pump state to add 10cc's of oil prior to install. Could be why the aftermarket ones are failing? I added more than that and plan on adding a little with every belt change.
