I have searched with no luck. Only after towing have I experienced this. After a long tow when coming to a complete stop the engine starts to lose power, as if it was being restricted until it kicks in again. When this happens the familiar cackle of the engine goes away and it feels like it wants to stahl but doesn't /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif. This is on Drive but if I put it on Park everything seems normal. I tow 8K lbs and on this last trip went for 400 miles roundtrip. I had just replaced the air filter thinking it was a breathing problem but it still did it after the long tow. While talking to a friend that distributes diesel engine parts, he told me it was Vapor Lock. Did not even stop to think of an answer. He says it has to do with the heat and how diesel vapors at certain temperatures causing this to happen. I have never heard of this. Can anyone shed some light on this? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

With over 50 PSI primary fuel pressure, I can't see it. These are very complicated systems and there are many things that can cause your concern. Without the proper diagnostic equipment, it's a crap shoot.

Your right, it goes back to normal until after my next tow if I let it sit overnight. There has to be more people going through this. My neighbor just got an 05 6.0 and it is happening to him too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I allready went to the dealer and they won't work on it unless it is doing it when they check it.

Does your 04 have a throttle body on it?? It sorta sounds like it or maybe a dirty/stiking EGR valve.

I had similar symptoms with my PSD. The EGR valve had to be replaced. The Ford Diesel Tech at the dealership can perform diagnostics on the EGR system to make sure it's functioning properly. Let us know what you find out in the end.

as anyone considered oil problems? If you can arrange it, have an oil aeration test and a low idle stability test done after a hard tow (when the problem arises).

One thing you need to remember.... if it don't act like it's broken, what on earth am I going to fix?

I posted this in the upgrades section on the "dead pedal feel" thread going right nowit sounds like the same problem

I think I have the answer!!!! WIRE RUBBING my truck went in for a new trans last week after working flawlessly I had this "dead pedal" feel and the next day the trans wouldnt go into gear it was "dead" they checked it and said cant find i reason it wont work so they put it back in and for the last week it worked great UNTILL I got back from towing and i had this "dead pedal" feel without towing just running down the freeway empty and now the trans is dead again no burnt fluid good operating temps ect but its dead. coincidence I THINK NOT!!! it has to be either a wire or computer problem it is at ford now Ill see what they say in the morning. Just to give a refresher on my "dead pedal" feel the turbo doesnt spool untill around 2800 rpm and the exhuast sounds llike a big block with a huge cam init. I get no check engine light or anything the trans shop said they couldnt pull any trouble codes so it has to be wiring problems right???????? I'm open to any other suggestions
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif PLEASE HELP MEEEEEEEEEE I feel as if Im drowning in this problem /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

diesels do not vapor lock. just more misinformation. with the electric controls come more problems for the very simple and reliable diesel. it is nonsence worrying about vapor lock etc when it just about has to be in one of the sensers etc.

After reading all of this it sounds more like the ERG could be sticking but can it stick sometimes only? I am taking it in.

Grampy_Jim, don't be mad at me. I know that the techs won't touch it if it does not happen when they check it. It is frustrating when I know for sure something is wrong and cannot mirror the problem in front of them.

I'm experiencing the same problem with my 04 f250 SD. I had the trans rebuilt after it was slipping. After that i was towing a 3k boat up a step hill. It was running smoothly, then all of a sudden my rpm was about 3500 and my speed was droping. It just had enough speed to bearly get pass the peak.Ford mention it might be the turbo, but i just had it replace a couple week before. If i wasn't towing anything, it ran great turbo and all. I'm having the machanic take to crack at it and i'll let you know.

Just another thought for what it's worth... My 89 Bronco with an EFI 302 V-8 started having stalling issues at around 55,000 miles and after long uphill climbs on the highway during the summer... It too acted like vapor lock and would restart only after sitting and cooling down for 15 minutes or so, then run fine... Problem turned out to be a failing gas tank located fuel pump... Once I replaced it, no more problem... Is it possible your fuel pump is failing...?
