well you started off in the wrong direction, the K&N is crap , they will pin hole on you later, however your thougts are in the right place. If it si a drop in then don't feel bad, they're cheap. A Tymar from Dale I is your best bet, about $120 for a full open element filter.
As for chips , your stock injectors do not flow enough fuel to hurt your motor so go for it, jsut don't tow heavy on race settings.
Best thing is to read here heavily, before spendign any more hard earned $$$$$
