I have a warning light on (picture of engine)one place in the owners book it says emmissions problem, in another place it says sevrvice engine soon. 3018 miles (06 f350) I assume the engine wants its oil changed. Not sure about the emmissions problem. Any thoughts.

I had the same problem, I went to the Ford dealership today. They checked trouble codes and said they downloaded something that had a update...under the hood they put a sticker that said "reprogramed 6C3A-12A650-EYB"...THE LIGHT IS NOW OFF.

MAYBE THIS HELPS?

I know the manual leads you to believe it is an emmisions issue, but it may not be. That little guy is called the 'Check Engine Light'. It can mean the gas cap is loose. In my case, the last one meant a new turbocharger!

You need to have a code reader to know what the light means. Most of my CEL's went away after 3-4 days. When the light is on, your Ford dealer can tell you what it means.

Several good replies... my 1st thought is that you have "overfueled" it. Ford changed the programing in 05-06 to set a SEL if you fill up the filler neck, and the truck starts acting like its out of fuel when the low fuel light comes on.

If your truck has a total of 3,000 miles on the factory oil, you may want to change it out now, otherwise, 3,000 is a serious waste of money & natural resources. The manual says 7.5k for normal & 5k for severe / heavy towing. I've run Delo 400 CI-4(+) at 7.5k intervals w/out any problems for 50k miles now. Blackstone OAs at ever change. They still say "try 7,500 miles & sample again".

I forgot about that one. Everytime I fill my tank past the automatic shut off point, I get a CEL 50-100 miles down the road. If I stop filling when the pump shuts off, then no CEL. Well, except when the turbo needed replacing.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif New one on me. I always fill my truck up to the cap and haven't seen the light once. I wonder why filling it up would turn on the light, there is no charcoal canister on these trucks???? Maybe it detects an over pressure in the tank when the fuel expands?

interesting.

Hi all. I'm new to this site, but have been monitoring since I picked up my new 06 PSD about 3 months ago (or 5800 miles ago). I have many questions/comments, but I'll limit them to this subject. I have done almost all of the above things, started engine with out fuel cap, filled tank until fuel was visable in neck, used farm fuel and probably many others things, and my check engine light never came on. Well, OK, once it did when I accidently unplugged that little ERG thing by the oil filter, but it went off after about 5 restart cycles.

I have also run mine until the "low fuel" warning came on (several times) and it continued to run fine even though the display showed only 30 miles to empty.

Apparantly, on some of the 06's, the programming is such that the sensor is overly sensitive. There is a flash that reprograms the computer/sensor so that the CEL does not come on when filling to the top of the neck.

The 1st tank that I filled up I filled it to the top, 50 miles later CEL (682 miles) took to dealed, and it was an overfill code. Now I just wait till pump kicks off and add another gallon. No more problems.
