I've got half of a 5 gallon pail sitting around with a bunch of unused motor oil in it. I mixed a bunch of it in with a few litres of diesel in a 5 gallon can.

I stopped pouring when I noticed a milky white stringy bit in it that looked kinda like bird droppings. When I tilted the pail around I could see a bunch of milky white stuff at the bottom that was the same as this but full on thickness. I've never seen water dilution in motor oil, but I get the feeling that this is water in the oil. Even though the lid was on tight the pail had sitting outside a few months ago in the pouring rain because someone moved it outside

Is there anyway I can filter this out or use these last couple of gallons of oil? Is it even worth it? Thanks.

i found my self with the same problem but i have 55 gal drums set up for my filtering. my drums always sit outside and are water tight the only thing i can think of is condesation. so what i did is i installed a valve b4 all my filters to drain all the water. what i do i i pour the oil in the drum and let it sit for a few days then when im ready i SLOWLY open the valve and drain all the stuff out till i see nice balck come out. then i add my diesel then filter. the reason for letting it drain slowly is if you open it all the way then the oil tends to start flowing b4 all the water is out. has worked for me. no problems as of yet. if you can drain the water out that should work.
