sounds like the water pump to me! Mine went out a few months ago with 108K on the truck. It never actually strted losing coolant through the weap hole. It just made a horrible grinding noise that got worse and worse. I popped the hood to find that while the truck was running, the water pump pulley looked like it was about to fly off it had soo much play in it!!!

Start by looking at it while its running. You can also squeeze the upper hose to see if its hot / circulating coolant!!

Don't torque the water pump bolts to 36-45 like the article says. That is a misprint. 18ft/lbs is what it should say. Too many people on this site have stretched and broken off bolts due to the misprint. My 02 service manual says 18.

Maybe we could get one of the moderators to edit that procedure to correct the torque values?

yeah, I broke off a bolt(not because of the article), and it was a royal pain in the butt
