While trunk is not running, I pull the pin up an hold it an nothing comes out of the drain hose. I was under the impression that at least fuel would run out, even if there is no water in the separator reservoir. Is this right or is it normal that nothing comes out?

The stock water separator is junk and causes a lot of problems. Many have by-passed the stock unit, some have installed after-market units(recommended).
If the fuel lines are still connected look to see if they shoved a bolt in the bottom of the drain hose as this is a common fix to some of the problems the stock unit causes.

No plug in the drain line. Probably just gunked up i guess. Now seems liek a good time to bypass. Recomendation on the configuration? I see you have "Holly Red pump, Racor 645 water separator with fuel heater". Are there other setups to consider for the water sepearator replacement? I might as well do the conversion to electric lift pump while I'm on the fuel lines. i the Holly red the best bet? Is it bio fuel friendly? Will a new lift pump change my timing (more pressure)?

My truck had a standard NAPA replacement water separator when i bought it. It does the job well for me, and is also a larger micron fuel filter to help my stock fuel filter a little.

I want a Racor to replace it, but if your worried about cost, NAPA or TSC is a source for cheaper ones.

I'm also in need of a bio-friendly electric lift pump if anyone has a cheap recommendation.

Water separators

The reason that the factory water separators suck is because there is a little rubber tip at the end of the metal plunger that gets stuck in the drain hole when you pull the plunger up. If you could twist a thin metal wire around the rubber tip it might stay on the plunger. Dan
