Dear Community Members,

We are excited to announce that we are live on our new forum platform! We’ve worked hard over the past few months with a leading design and product firm to deliver a cleaner, faster and more engaging experience for you. Our goal is to provide modern design and technology to make the site run faster, smoother and more reliably. All of the valuable content within the community is still here, even though the layout may look different.

A Consistent Experience Across All Devices
The site is optimized for all screen sizes, including mobile. All features are available and ready to use on all devices.

Speed and Reliability Are Key
No one should have to wait for information. This site has been built to be much faster and more reliable, period.

New Homepage Experience
Your home page now features the most active forums, trending discussions, featured showcases, and top contributing members. This will help keep you up to date on what’s happening in your community and eventually become a very personalized experience for our members with all the great content you love surfaced effortlessly for you.

Search
We have introduced new search algorithms, powered by an industry-leading AI platform, that will help you find information faster. We plan to roll out new features to continue improving search, and to power many additional areas of the forum.

Due to the volume of content, our search platform may take some time to complete indexing. During this process, you may see a limited number of posts until indexing has been completed. We appreciate your patience.

Easy to Use and Navigate
We have made the design clean and simple to use. Near the upper right-hand corner of the community, you will see navigation icons.

The first icon is for what’s new on the site.

Clicking on it, by default, will take you to new unread posts. On that page, you can click on additional tabs as well, such as Popular, if you prefer to view active topics.

Clicking the list icon next to “NEW” will bring you to the full forum listing.

You can also navigate by clicking the 3 vertical dots.

Clicking on your avatar will give you a drop-down menu for all things related to your account.

Dark Mode
We have introduced Dark Mode. One of our favorite features allows you to access the site with a power-saving, and easier on the eyes dark mode. You can access it in the drop-down menu under the 3 vertical dots.

Bookmarks
Now you can bookmark your favorite discussions! Bookmarks are a handy way to remember and easily find great content or stuff you want to read later.

We also wanted to make it easier for new users to understand the lingo of forums. We have cleaned up various language to more commonly recognized phrases including:
  • Following - Thread subscriptions, and Watched are now known as Following
  • Conversations – Private Messages or PMs are now conversations and can be accessed from the user avatar drop-down in the main navigation
  • Showcase – Showcase is designed for users to "showcase" items/projects through the use of uploaded images, text descriptions and custom content categories. It’s a way to visually and textually provide detailed information on the content you wish to share. The showcase would be similar to a catalog, whereas the gallery would be like a photo album. It can be accessed from the drop-down menu with the 3 dots.
These are just a few of the great new functions and features to try on the site. Take a tour and look around! If you have any questions, please check out the HELP section for some quick FAQs about the new platform, Help Section

Please let us know what you think about the new experience, your feedback is important to us.

Thank you all for your support during this amazing journey!

I will be here during your transition to the new platform, to help with any questions, help with navigation or how to do things, and to listen to your feedback so please don't hesitate to holler at me. I want to help.

I do want to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Cricket. When I was born, my father told his friends I was the ugliest baby he had ever seen, and that I sounded just like a cricket (yes, the insect) so I have been Cricket for 58 years now. I live just outside of San Antonio, Texas and spend most of my off time out in nature. I spend my vacation, in the fall, hiking and camping.

I have worked with VerticalScope for 5 years now. I won't always know the answers to your questions, but I can find someone who does, as needed. ;)

Please don't be afraid to explore and test out things to see how they work on the site.

Although you can certainly use the "insert image" icon to upload an image to your post, you can also just drag and drop it to the text editor or even copy/paste it into there!

(I took this photo camp here in Texas.)

You can easily share videos just by adding the URL directly into the text editor!

Gif links from sites like giphy.com will display automatically just by adding the gif URL directly in the text editor. Try it!
I am also a huge fan of the dark mode for the community. What is your favorite feature?

I will be here to answer questions and to help you navigate, as needed. :)

OK, what happened to the FAQ's? There was a wealth of information in them and if you try to follow a link to what was there it just brings you back to the main page.
Let me look into this. Do you have an example link I can check?

If it was WIKI information, it couldn't be moved over but the information is not lost. They are looking for solutions to restore it for us.

Also can you collapse sections that you are not interested in.

I could care less for the classifieds where no one post or has anything for sale or the vendors area. I know what vendors to use and don't need a whole section to find them and if needed I can restore them if I want.

So far from what I have seen you lost more than you gained.
You can't currently collapse forums but you can choose filters within new posts to only display new post from those sections you are interested in.

Let me know if you are interested in more information on how to do that.

I guess you can't edit posts as well? Anyway, what will happen to the links in older posts for all the information we used to reference (probably broken now and forever)? This is all important stuff the old TSBs, Tech Articles, PCM Codes, Workshop and Owners Manuals, etc?
You should be able to edit your post for up to 24 hours. Near the timestamp at the top of the post, you should see an edit link if it is within that time limit. After 24 hours you would need to reach out to a mod/admin for assistance.

Time limits are used in order to preserve useful thread content, while also protecting the forum against spam. We have formulated the current times in a way to best prevent thread confusion and time gaps left vulnerable to spam.

Personally, I find the sidebar ads fairly easy to ignore. The ones that are really annoying to me are the clickbait ads that appear in the list of posts within a thread. I don't need to apply for a credit card here (or anywhere for that matter). I really don't feel that those are appropriate here.
Thank you for your feedback on the advertising layout. We aim to integrate the ads in the most seamless way to ensure that it does not block content and can be easily scrolled past if the offer or product is not something of interest to you.

While the complete removal of ads is difficult, ads help support the cost of operating the community, we are always looking at ways to optimize the balance between advertising and content. We are working with our development teams to also introduce a new premium membership for purchase in the coming months that will allow members to view the site ad-free.

How about some way to tell if there are new post in a forum once you open up the forum.

You can tell if there are new ones in the forum by the brighter icon for the forum, but once you open it up there is nothing to tell you what post have not been viewed. You can look at the date stamp on the right but it still doesn't tell you if you viewed it or not.

Another thumbs down for the new format. This is what you get when you have computer people design a forum for truck people.
Within a forum section, that titles that are bold have unread posts. The titles that are not bold have already been read by you.

Cricket,
I wouldn’t want your job of introducing change since not many of us like change...Lol

First day on the new site and I am using an iphone.
I see my signature at the bottom of each post I make and its inconvenient to scroll past. Is this only visible to me? Can I toggle my signature off while using the mobile site?

Thanks
Believe it or not, I am lucky enough to actually love my job. Since I am a creature of habit and not a fan of change, it helps me better understand what folks are dealing with.

I am going to add a signature tutorial below that covers everything including who sees what. :)

New Signature Tutorial

Your signature can include up to 4 lines, a maximum of 1000 characters and one link. An image counts as a line. Anytime you hit "enter" on your keyboard, it will automatically go to a new line. Images will automatically be resized to 300 x 200 pixels. You can see more options in your settings to collapse signatures, always view full signature, or to not see signatures at all. The choice is yours.

Both guests and members can view signatures.

If a user has their preferences set to the default they will see collapsed signatures as in the example below for them. (They can click to see more.)

If a user has their preferences set to always show expanded signatures it will look like the example below for them. Your image can be clicked to view full size.

If you want to adjust your preferences for signatures you can click on your avatar near the upper right-hand corner of the site and select account settings.

In the left side navigation, you will see an option for preferences. Click it.

Scroll down to content options and select your signature preferences.

If you have more questions, please let us know.

I agree. The new ones are pretty lame, and not very Dieselstop, or even forum specific.

Another item I just noticed is missing. When going back to a thread that was viewed previously, but had new posts in it, there used to be a button to go to the first unread post. That would be handy for avoiding wading thru posts that had already been read in a long thread to find the new ones. Please add that back in.
[on edit] I see that still works. I must not have been holding my mouth right before. ;)
Navigating Thread Listing
157033

  • Clicking the thread title will take you to where you left off, the 1st unread post.
  • Clicking the timestamp below the title will take you to the 1st post of the thread.
  • Clicking the timestamp above the last poster user takes you to the last (newest) post.

You might consider restoring the original emoticons, emoji's, smilies or whatever you call them.
It does not look like the old smilies will be coming back at this time.

We currently use standard UTF-8 smilies. This helps greatly in keeping things fast loading and standardized across device types. We no longer run custom GIF files for every single smile which is terrible for web performance, and fast-loading websites.

How about adding all of the forums that are on The Diesel Stop to the filters when you click on the "New" icon to see new post? Then we can decide what forums we want to look at and if we want to look at all of them then we can just go to the main forum page.

I could care less about the 6.7, 6.4, and the 6.0 forums and am more interested in the 7.3's.
How To Filter New Posts To Only Display Specific Section(s)

You can accomplish this by setting a custom default filter on the new posts page.

Step 1 Navigate to the specific forum you want to focus on and click "Follow Forum". (Repeat this for as many forums as you want to follow.)
112089

Step 2 From the navigation, near the upper right-hand corner, click on NEW.

This will open a new page of new posts for you. On the new page, click on filters.

Now you can adjust the filters to work for your personal preferences, such as the example above and save it as the default. Make sure to click the "filter" button to save it, at the bottom.

How To Find Subscribed Threads

Click on your avatar near the upper right-hand corner of the site and select “following” from the drop-down menu.

This will bring you to a page where you can choose to view followed discussions, forums, your discussions, and participated discussions.

This still brings up every unread discussion. As I mentioned I could care less about anything in the 6.4 or 6.7 forums, vendors, and the classified section.

This still leaves me weeding through everything that I don't care to read to find what I am interested in.
You can use the filter to see only those things that you want to see. ;)

Edit:
I guess I should ask what the expiration time is for deleting posts?
And where is the delete icon?
Thanks
Only moderators and admins are able to delete a post, as needed.

If a thread is deleted, it then deletes all the responses and thus other people’s posts too. Or, when deleting a post, people may respond. Then, if you delete one post, the following posts will not make sense - because one is missing it, it destroys the understanding and flow.

You need a better alert for PM's or as you call them now "conversations"

That little red icon up in the corner of my avatar on the page just isn't making it.
We are releasing push notifications in Q1 2020 to enhance this feature.

HELP! With the new format I can’t figure out how to select “email notification” or “instant email notification” when I post or respond to a post. I like to be notified when there is a response to something I am following. PLEASE tell me how to select this. I can’t imagine that this feature would have been eliminated.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Click on your avatar, near the upper right-hand corner of the site. Select
157071

When you are on the account settings page, click on"preferences" in the left-side navigation.
157072

On the preferences page, scroll down to content options, add checkmarks to those referring to email notifications, and click Save at the bottom.

New layout looks nice and I look forward to familiarizing myself with it over the next while...
But, one thing that seems to have gone away is linking directly to a sub-forum. Before, my favorites would take my right to the sub-forum for 2017 and up PSD's. But it appears that is no longer an option?

Thanks!
Can you explain more so that I better understand? Are you referring to favorites in your browser?

How about a "report post" button?

It helps when a new member post his question in the wrong forum. Other than that you'll start getting cross postings.

The few moderators that we have can't see all of them.
You have one in the dropdown above.

It would be nice if it was on the post like it used to be.

Down where it say Reply, Quote, or Like instead of having to go hunting for it.
This was part of the update noted here under Release Notes this week:

Restyling of Action Buttons
We’ve done some restyling of the action buttons on a post to make it less visually cluttered. We’ve also moved the Report function to the three dot overflow action button.

@Administrator @AG Jeff

Several times throughout this thread, @bugman has asked for the whereabouts of the original 97 FAQ, which has a library of useful information covering the 1994 through the 2007 model years that is well known in the broader community of Ford Super Duty diesel owners.

I would argue that the only reason why The Diesel Stop has remained viable as a forum over the years is in no small part due to that FAQ, which we, the members of this community who have been here for decades before you became administrators of this forum, built, post by post, with our contributions and links that were curated by volunteer moderators and friends of Jason Lester, the founder of Ford-Diesel dot com, which has become whatever this now is.

And while you, as administrators, have faithfully addressed every perfunctory concern and question raised regarding this forum's new format... you have deftly ignored @bugman 's repeated requests for the most useful compendium of data on TDS... the original FAQ (and, I would add, a link to all the non searchable Archives from the Ford-Diesel.com days, which were not lost, unlike the pre F-D BBS data).

The irony is that Cricket writes: "Time limits are used in order to preserve useful thread content".

Such a statement seems to stem beyond irony, into the realm of hypocrisy. But it doesn't appear malicious, or even intentional. It just demonstrates that neither Vertical Scope, Auto Guide, or you guys, as the administrative staff tasked with the management of this forum... really understand the underpinnings of what once made this forum great, nor what motivates many formerly active members to revisit this cemetery to gaze upon the grave markers of "preserved useful content" seeking remembrance.

You guys don't get it.
@NYB

Understood and there is no update or ETA on the wiki page to be restored at this time.

The data is not lost however it will take some time to restore and once we have an ETA we will let you know as the developers are focused on some other major rollouts over Q1 2020.

I do have this reported and it is on the radar.
