First problem (other than very minor thing or two) felt two days ago and now again.. White smoke, little power, doesn't wanna shift until 3M rpm and then after 5+ seconds or so.. After warmup, I get black smoke, little power and backfiring when the throttle's lifted. Turbo sounds like it's spooling up but many times the power's not much more than a lawn mower... I'm thinking EGR valve at least. Hopefully not the turbo..

I'm careful about cool-down and haven't driven it hard. Even tried the 'drive-it-like-you-stole-it' routine the first time this happened and it didn't help.. Going camping with the 5er in 2 weeks.. It better work...

Going in next Tues.. Almost made it to two years and 14,000 miles... LOL.

Mine is in right now for the same deal, waiting for the tech to return from school to replace my turbo.

Sounds like your turbo vanes are sticking. I just got mine back from turbo #3. If it is in fact a bad turbo, should only take a day or 2 to fix. Good luck!

Swell.. LOL.. Turbo #3??? Bummer on your end..

Only good thing is it's doing this now instead of 100 miles away towing the 5er..

Well, just got the call; it's the turbo. Putting out too much boost (29# at WOT).. They're on 'national backorder' but are expected to be shipped out on 6/16.. I've got only 13,700 miles on it.

Service manager tells me to baby it until it gets here. Towing the camper this weekend and he said as long as I don't bury the throttle I should be ok.. I'll be taking it REAL easy..

Another post said something about this engine needs to be run up to operating temps at least once a week to keep the turbo from problems.

Mine is parked sometimes for 2-3 weeks between running so maybe this is something I need to address.

There is no amount of work or driving or anything else that will keep these POS turbos and EGR systems from going bad. Bad design = problems it's that easy.

I drive my truck every day, at speeds varying from standing still to 80mph. I tow a 8500lb camper every weekend from March 1st to November 30th and usually two good long towing trips a year 500 mile round trip. Still my EGR replaced at 40K now a turbo at 67K.

It pisses me off to hear the "experts" say you are not working the truck enough. I call B. S. !!!!

You're probably right. I'm wondering if the new turbo will be of a slightly different design that keeps this crap from happening again.

Inquiring minds wanna know.
