I have an idea, but want some professional input. If the truck doesn't have the same power it use to, meaning if you mash the go pedal 1/2 way, it accelerates better than all the way to the floor.

If I don't have enough FUEL, would it blow smoke?
If I don't have enough OIL, would it blow smoke?
If I don't have enough AIR, would it blow smoke?

I haven't had time to install gauges to check the OIL or FUEL yet, and just want a quick down and dirty test.

Cheap and easy - new fuel filter - new air filter.

Smoke problem - valve guides? Worst case - blown gasket or crack in the block/heads?

Wish you the best of luck. (I'm not a professional BTW).

You have a lot of posts so you have probably thought of those possibilites already..

Back with gas engines a friend used to look at the coolant to see if it pulsed with te radiator cap off to check for water jacket leaks. I don't know if diesels are greatly different in that respect.

If I don't have enough FUEL, would it blow smoke? Probably not, but possibly white smoke
If I don't have enough OIL, would it blow smoke? Got me, but it may be running out of HP oil pressure from what you're describing (possibly leaking injector o-rings or sticky IPR)
If I don't have enough AIR, would it blow smoke? Yep, If you're dumping in more fuel than you have air to burn it'll be BLACK- Exhaust Restriction, weak turbo (up-pipe leaks), etc

That's my 2c worth, anyway

Thanks guys, I didn't post my conclusions so I wouldn't muddy the waters or spurn creative thinking. So heres the poop.
New:
Injectors (Swamps OEM AD) x8
ICP
IPR
GP's and relay
UVC
Fuel pump
Fuel filter

My AIS really doesn't look dirty.... :sneaky:, JK! The to this point working restriction meter, has only been able to register 50%. If I goose it in O/D at like 55mph, I usually don't get smoke. If I do it goes from like a dark grey to darker. Now from standing start I can still erase the car behind me with, in grand fashion, BLACK smoke. But in those situations, it's like there's a governer on the truck. The RPMs build, but the "pull" peter's out. My turbo will leap to ~22psi, and my EGT's get to 1200+ plus in a hurry. If only my velocity would corrolate to the gauges.

My delima is the custom fuel lines I have are actually 3/16 ID PTFE/SS braided lines (classed as -4 due to reduced friction) On the feed side I have about 4 -4 fittings between the heads and the filter houseing. No one seems to know the "flow" of fuel I'm suppose to have at the heads (true messure of a pumps health) so I have to decide weather I've got fuel or oil concerns.

The OEM early 99' HPOP has lived there for ~217k mi. No leaks and always fed with Royal purple, Mobil 1, Rottela Syn, etc. My blackstones have always come back WELL below average for wear. But, it may just be tired and no longer able to maintain a high enough flow of oil when demanded. I have an old version of the EASE Diagnostics Pro (ver 5) for PC and when I moved last time, lost the CD's. Those tards' want FIFTY dollars for a replacement CD!! I'll bite the bullet and spend $400 on and AE, just so those greedy &^$ards don't get a dime. [soap box off]

I suppose crux of the question; if I have enough fuel, and not enough oil under hard acceleration, will I smoke or not.

How about starting at the beginning. Pull codes...

The to this point working restriction meter, has only been able to register 50% Your AIS is not keeping up with your injectors period!!!

There's your first red flag. I have NEVER seen mine move with the AFE intake. Change the fuel filter while your at it. Get your codes pulled, and have the diagnostic codes ran if necessary.

BTW, AE likes to get paid too. Youll get to pay for upgrades with them guys from time to time...
