OK

So when my truck runs low on fuel when I try to empty the a tank, it sucks a little air and all the sudden the truck wants to take off like it's on crack, and I know it's time to switch tanks.

So what does air intrusion do to the IP and injectors. Is it hard on them or nothing to worry about. My Neighbor was saying that you could possibly burn/erode a hole in a piston from the high pressure fuel/air mixture coming from the injector if it's happening on a consistent bases.

Any thoughts or experiences??

I would like to know everyones thoughts on this as well. I am guilty of running out of fuel and switching tanks at least 3 times a week. Thanks

Can't imagine its good as air does not provide good lubrication to the IP or injectors. The reason the truck takes off like a bat out of hell when its running low is because the low fuel pressure causes the timing to advance.

Since these IDI's inject into the pre-cup your pistons should be safe.

I was thinking that too. My neighbor was thinking worse case scenario, air constantly in the system, and no pyro guage.

SO, here's where I'm going with this thread..........

If you can introduce air into the system, and gain more power, is it worth it over a turbo or propane setup.

I'm thinking some sort of adjustable needle valve between the in-line heater and IP, but, will the IP "pull" enough air through or would you have to force the air into the line.

God, I've got too much time on my hands right now.:icon_rolleyes:

If the fuel is leaned out too much be it diesel or gasser they both rev higher then usually stall. If you think out loud the fuel is provided at a set point..... but to get more power we can inject air into the cylinder.........TURBO. This would be the best and safest way to go....

I have seen members do propane with good results... but can be expensive. I have seen members do water injection to the point of a blown engine. All these things will in turn give some extra performance........ but the TURBO if monitored right in my opinion does it best and safest for the engine overall.

Thanks for the post on this Pete. I've just always wondered if you could lean it out a little to get more power. One thought is that you would probably get a more "vaporized" shot of fuel from the injectors if a little air was incorporated.

It's a theory by all means, and I would love to have a spare motor so I could test it. I'm always looking for one to rebuild or drop in when the one I have needs major TLC.

I've always considered a Turbo, but it seems to expensive for what the truck does, and I'm not sure how long I will keep it. Propane just seems a little dangerous, especially when I don't have a good place to mount a tank.
