Actually I have... Did you know they make up to a 7.17 for the 10.5” rear that is in these trucks? There was actually a post the other day that said 4.56’s weren’t strong enough for a SD. Abuse is about the only think that will destroy a ring/pinion or carrier in these trucks and that can happen stock.

Now, have you seen a 5.13 pinion for a 7.5” Ford rear end..? Now that is small, but yet did its job for a good number of miles in my ranger. I did end up chunking the pinion but it was my fault /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

well, the pinion just gets smaller and the ring gear just gets thicker as you go numerically higher. (lower gears)

If you think about it, taller tires put MORE stress on the pinion and ring gear, as the ring gear only moved at tire speed, so.....

4.88 would be about the max for me.

If I ran 44's, sure 5.13 (and take it easy)

my 4.56's are on a 7.3 w/ 40 to 42" tires. The 6.0 is stock (tires and gears)
