I am having an Eaton Posi installed (to replace my POS Factory Limited Slip), and I have a question about the lube that should be used.

As y'all know, the Form owners manual says to use a 75W-140 Synthetic oil.

The printed materials that come with the Eaton state that a "mineral based 80W-90 oil" should be used. They also state that "Use of synthetic lube is not recommended".

I'm not a rear end expert, but I thought that the purpose of the lube was to protect the ring and pinion gears and bearings; with that in mind, I was thinking that a different lube (i.e. not 75W-140) might result in damage to the gears.

I am curious as to what other Eaton Posi owners are using...

Thanks,

I've used Eaton posies in many differant applications and the best combo that I have come up with is 80-90 with 1/2 of the posi additive. The Eaton is a clutch type unit and using half the posi additive will make the clutches grip better but still slip so that it will not chatter. Just my exp. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

I have an Eaton in my 94 Lightning, and the stock lube is the same as yours. I use the dino 80w-90 with about 3/4 of a bottle of the Ford friction modifier. The Eaton has been good to me for 30k so far!

This is interesting. I am now wondering why we even need to use the 75W-140 in the rear end since at least one other person is using something different with no apparant ill effects.

Any comments?

Thanks,
