I suppose it’s a safe statement to say air has something to do with it. But is it air moving through the filter, through the intake tubes, over the compressor wheel, over the turbine, or is it a combination of all these?
Along those same lines, why do the early (99) wheels whistle more than the later models? Does this point to the compressor wheel being the dominant contributor to whistle?
