I'm looking at a couple of 2005 F-350s this week. What are some of the problems I should look for? Any telltale signs of problems would be very helpful.

Also, is there anything else non-drivetrain related that the 2005s are notorious for?

Thanks for all the help.

Thats just it, nobody can come up with anything problematic with the 05-07 6.0psd engines or the entire drivetrain for that matter because it is very dependable. The 03/04 models HAD some issues however the 6.0 still has a bad reputation for some reason. My 04 is an incredible truck, my company has an 05 and I love the 18" wheels (XL model too) and the coil spring suspension. 70,000 miles and zero issues. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif

I was able to get GregH to run an Oasis report for me and this is what it showed:

Truck looks like it has issues with a bucking and jerking while pulling a load. It has a closed CuDL contact, and the vehicle was bought back by Ford. Repairs include a couple of oil leaks, and two turbos, EGR valve, EBP sensor, and various recalls. It doesn't appear that the concern it was bought back for was ever repaired.

Should I run as far away as possible from it or take chance with the 5 yr/100k mile warranty? The truck cosmetically looks immaculate, but if I can't keep it on the road what good is it?

I have the same issues as noted with my '05. Engine been out for bed plate leak, EGR replacments and cleanings, Turbo cleaning, white and black smoke issue, three flash upgrades, surging when pulling heavy loads, steering gear box replacement, steering wheel shake on bumps, and the wrong seat belts installed. I asked, but Ford won't buy mine back with 30K miles on it. I didn't push the issue because of the time issue with the buy back program.

However, when my F-350 drives and runs right, I like it. But I will look long and hard at the GM and Dodge next time.

With an Oasis list like that on the truck, pass it by.

However, I will sell you mine....lol

LEAKS, LEAKS and More LEAKS...

Crawl up under it and see if it is leaking. Look at/around the bell housing and starter.

Early 05's had an issue with the ECT gauge reading hot when, in fact, the engine temp was still normal. Other typical 6.0 issues such as EGR fouling and oil leaks are common. The '05 MY had quite a few changes from the 03-04 motors that were supposed to fix some of the earlier concerns.
