Well i have a 2001 F250 4wd it has a 76K miles on it I bought the tranny filter and gasket but the only Mercon V fluid I can find is the Wal-Mart brand Super Tech 3.77/quart or the Advanced Auto Brand 4.09/quart. In the write up on changing your tranny fluid it says: You may use either conventional or synthetic ATF, as long as it is rated MERCON or MERCON V. Your Owner’s Guide says to not use MERCON V, but Ford changed that in 2006.

I do not drive this truck everyday and when I do drive it is usally hauling 4K to 10K lbs. What would be the best fluid I could buy that is a resonable price 5 to 6 bucks a quart.

Thanks in Advanced!

I use Castrol Mercon V. IIRC it was around $5 a quart. Mobil 1 Also has a good Mercon V.

Well I just figured I would post up some info. I have been shopping around all the parts stores and such. I dont like using the Wal-Mart brand fluids (Super Tech) or the part store brands in a Heavy Duty truck, at the same time I dont have the money to spend 9 dollars a quart for Mobil 1 when I need 20 quarts. At Oriley's I found Valvoline Mercon V Full Sythetic(maybe all Mercon V are full sythetic but it says it on the bottle) for only 5.49 regular price. The Ford dealer said MotorCraft Mercon V was not sythetic. If money is tight the valvoline seems like a good deal being full synthetic!

Super Tech 3.79
Advanced Auto Brand 4.09
MotorCraft 6.02
Mobil 1 8.79
