Sold my 94 IDI looking for a newer truck and realized if I go back to gas I won't have to loose sleep on trying to figure out and take a chance on which newer diesel to get, which in the 16K price range would be a 6.0.

Not sure how a gas trucks these days price out vs diesel, hard to even find a gasser out here. Will not be a daily driver anymore, just boat to the ramp, dump trips and occasional towing pull behind t.t. 'bout 7K lbs.

Thanks for any input.

Wow- look around some more. That’s outrageous for a gasser. Might need to get one from the southwest- better selection of rust free trucks.

And if you don't, here’s a close guess. 8 MPG downhill with a tailwind. That's unloaded...

However the price difference between a gas engine and a diesel engine can buy a whole lot of gas. And this isn't even looking at the cost of maintenance between the two of them.

It has really come to the point that unless you are towing very heavy and or a lot the diesel is priced out of the equation.

Our '03 V10 Excursion has settled in a 13 mpg not towing. Have a commuter car now so a truck for me just has to tow the boat 8 miles to the ramp 15 -20 times a year, go to the yard debris recycler a few times a year and tow the T.T. a few times a year. VS a 6.0, I feel much better going back to a gasser.

Went from 11.1 to 11.3 towing the Focus home 140 miles, some hills and grades and HWY 26 over Mt Hood.

Are the onboard fuel economy computers accurate these days when compared against hand calculated mpg’s?

+1 for Fuelly.com

But I still hand-calc to make sure I didn’t fat-finger when I entered my numbers.
