I was looking for a F350 but I found a really nice F250. My ?'s are what's the difference in the 2 aside from the GVW? Does it have a Dana60 in the front or is it a Dana 50? Does it have the same rear axle as the F350's, does it have a different front and rear spring ratings than the 350's.
The truck is a 2002 F250 4x4 Crewcab, longbed, single rear wheel, PSD, auto, with the Lariat int.
Thanks in advance Mark

If I remember right F250 through F550 had the Dana 60 in 2002 The rear axle is the same (for SRW) You can look at spring codes on do to see what it has, For simular equiped trucks I think the springs are also the same. The rear block and GVWR where different. Stock tire was differnent unless the upgraded tires where ordered. overall very simular trucks.
I held out for a F350 because that is what the real men drive.

Yeah, please, your F350 is so much more of a truck than my 250. Anyhow, there are 5 differences, the sticker in the door (GVWR), the badges on the side and tailgate, a number in the VIN, the spring packs in the 350 or .040" thicker than the 250, and the 350 has 4" lift blocks in the back whereas the 250 has 2" lift blocks. EVERYTHING else is the same. If you like the 250 get it unless you are planning on hauling a lot of weight in the bed and then I would still get it because I do not care about what the sticker says, I would just get air springs (I think you should have them on a 350 if you are going to carry a bunch anyway) and call it good.

Sorry it was a flippant comment and not meant to offend anyone, it just struck me as funny in guy kind of way, so again my apologies to anyone that I offended with that.

I started looking at 250 a few months back and ended up with a 350 because it turned out to be cheaper. I guess the ride is nicer in the 250 (due to the springs) and the only other thing I can think of is that I read the brake discs were different on the 350. If you do a Google search you can get some good specs pages up for that year and just flick between them. One other think to check is the insurance, for whatever reason the 1 ton was cheaper for me to insure.

The rotors and calipers are the same for F250 F350 and F350 drw. I swapped out my 4 in blocks for the F250 2 inch blocks so the truck sits level so I am getting closer to a F250 every day.

superdutys and light dutys?
there are only differences in brakes between the 1/2 tons and 3/4+1 ton line up, both the 3/4 and 1 tons from 99 on are superdutys. and the 1/2 tons are 1/2 tons, not "light dutys" there is no such thing

My o2 F250 has the same springs as a 350 including the overloads, only difference is the block and the sticker that says 500lbs less than a 350. Older 250s have lighter springs, or at least all the ones I have looked at. If the one your looking at has overload springs I wouldnt worry about it. Its only really a "one ton" if its a dually anyway both the F250 and 350 will carry all a single tire will handle.

Yes there was, there was a non Super Duty F250 with a F150 body style. That truck was very different from the Super Dutys. I do not remember when they quit making those. It was not soon enough though IMHO.

toofast, no problem, I understand.

I was told my 250 had the 350 springs because of the camper package. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif Might only be 4 differences.

If you plan on towing a lot on a semi regular basis or regular basis, I would care A LOT about what that little sticker says, as it states what your truck can legally tow, and fines for being overweight, on an axle or the entire truck are quite expensive. Just something to consider.

Nope, springs are the same part number from 99-04. The 4" Rear Blocks allow 2 more inches of travel before the rear suspension bottoms out. So the same springs are bent backwards more on a 350 which gives the truck a greater capacity. Go ahead and flex your muscles, heh heh...

Nope, same parts for the F250 as the F350 (srw), dealer will tell you a lot of things to sell a truck. I have a F350 because of the higher GVWR and resale vale. This has been hashed out several times over the past 5 years do a search in the archives and all the info is there.
